Here's the pic it was painted from:

Great pic, and it's dramatic in giant mural form.

Matrix Roof is above Millerton Lake, just outside of Fresno.

There's a lot of basalt around there; some choss, some not.

Hey socalbolter, what’s the name of that climb in the Riverside rock quarry where that guy is pulling the lip of the large overhang? What’s it rated?

It's called The Zone - 12c.

You have to climb Leviathan - 11d to access the hanging belay below the roof. Found more or less in the center of the upper level.

Hey Socal,

Have you posted you photo equipment specs yet?

It seems to me that you have a pretty good set up if this many of your photos are so good?

Just wondering. And don't tell me this all came from analog throw-away cameras... LOL

I'd hate to think I spent all that money for my set up when I could have been getting better results with some cheap pick and chuck landfill material.

Thanks

I've got a nice camera, but just OK glass:

Nikon D200 body with Nikkor 12-24:4 and 18-200:3.5 lenses.

Enjoy shooting, but consider myself more of a hobby shooter. I'd like to take the time to learn how to really use my camera better and get some faster lenses or maybe some smaller primes, but can't really justify those purchases unless I really start to shoot a lot.

Some of these shots will be used in guidebook projects, but most of them are just to show folks the areas or are the results of me going out climbing with my friends and wanting some images to remember the routes and good times.

I've got a lot more and will post them here and there as I have time.

for outdoors shooting the new nikon 16-85 AF-S VR looks like a winner. Still slow (3.5-5.6). The reviews to date rate it better image quality pretty much at all focal lengths and apertures than the 18-200.

I picked up the sigma 30 f/1.4 three months ago and you can't beat this puppy for sharpness, bokeh and speed, but for climbing shots having a zoom is really nice.

These are a bunch of great shots you've posted. Most of them with the 18-200?

Hey Bob, Louie here.

When were you down in Panama?

I think a friend of mine bolted these (and more at other crags close to there). The horizontal column bands are too similar not to be the same crag.

He's headed back at the end of next week to bolt more at a different wall.

Louie...how are you? The local told that a guy from CA bolted the routes and supplied the gear for the routes...but I don't remember his name...I thought it might have been you.:)

Was there in April looking for land. Hope all is well?

The bolter's name is Gary Henning. He's a friend of mine that has helped with the bolting at the Riverside Quarry. While the geology of that crag is hard to beat, there are others he bolted that offer more options.

He also owns properties down there. In fact, I think the main reason he's going down this time is to try and sell one of them.

If you want to get in touch with him, shoot me an email at socalbolter@cox.net and I'll forward his contact info to you.

Tork:

I only bolted a few routes on that dome. My friend Grahm Doe lives up in Oakhurst and is probably the most active new route guy in the Shuteye area right now.

He's posted info on most of the Chiquito stuff over on rockclimbing.com. His contact info is on that area's page over there too...
