BITD a climber had to be able to rebuild the motor in their VW van alongside the highway with a nutpick and a few pitons for tools. This led to superior mechanical aptitude which translated well in the realm of placing gear. Todays noob's in their shiny Soob's don't have a chance. When the economy craters, and those same folks are trying to get to the crags with 500,000 miles on those cars climbing will be reborn.

At this point the belayer is bent over while belaying through the crack.

As the story was relayed to me, If the second were to fall while in the roof crack, the belayer
would be pulled down, becoming a human chockstone, and the climber would be free-hanging
in midair. This would knott exactly be the easiest situation to rectify...

I looked carefully at the pics. I don't think so. I would have a shorter tie in though.
