Because people like certainty, and are afraid of the unknown.
Plus, nobody wants to die, they want to keep on going. And they want things to be nice when they keep going.

You read them all wes. So what is the ultimate conclusion?
Since you know so well.
And what you said above is a normal reaction to someone who does not know the ultimate conclusion.

Lighten up? It'd be more fun to blow it up, don't you think?
Is that a cage on the back for all of the believers that they "pick up"?

(1 Corinthians 1:27) “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in His presence.
(1Co 2:14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
I dunno, but it sounds about right to me!

The persecution and reviling seem to be going both ways here.
Of course no one here really knows much about real persecution.
I would guess that the persecution referenced in the Bible is more akin to what's going on in the Sudan and Darfur.
Just a reality check.

You can do better than that wes. I told you you don't know.
George Bush is not a Christian nor does he follow Christ instructions.
Weak useless argument wes, back to work for you.

Bush
He'll say anything he wants to. Still one must judge by his actions.
Two thousand years have passed and still they are killing.
So the killing business is going on. Not just in big wars but also in your regular, daily life. You are maintaining big, slaughterhouses.
Christ"s instruction "Thou shalt not kill"
Has he accepted the instruction? He is still maintaining mechanized animal slaughterhouses.
Karmic reaction for maintaining slaughterhouses, especially cow killing, is big wars where people will be slaughtered.
George Bush the leader of America does not accept the instruction "thou shat not kill" and maintains slaughterhouses.
Therefore he's not a Christian. He maybe something else though.

Voltaire counsels y'all:
Of all religions the Christian is without doubt the one which should inspire tolerance most, although up to now the Christians have been the most intolerant of all men.

Wes it's
"Thou shalt not kill."
That would mean Christ was not intelligent enough to use the right word, murder. There is killing, and there is murder, Murder refers to human beings.
Do you think Jesus was not intelligent enough to use the right word?
You are interpreting. I told you you don't know.

"WBraun, don't be an idiot."
But I am an idiot. I don't know sh'it.
Unfortunately for you it still stands as "Thou shalt not kill"
You can interpret it as you want but it's not murder.
And slaughterhouses are against the law.
I thought you said you read the Bhagavad Gita

"I am a Christian."
"He is a Christian."
etc.
Saying you are something does not make it so anymore than saying someone else is something makes it so. Actions and deeds speak more strongly than words.
Say, for example that an overweight man walks up to you and says "I am a climber." In my youth I would have laughed and said "you are a fat-ass." Since then I have been schooled at climbing a few times by folks who didn't look like they could get both feet off the ground. Conversely, along comes Joe Buff, all geared up to go. A "climber for sure," he gets up and whips wildly off the 5.8... (this example is relevant - climbing is religion, yes?)
The problem with "Christians (not all of course, but a lot of them)" is that they go straight to the forgiveness deal, and skip all the hard stuff. It's just my opinion, but I think the Catholic Church , by ritualizing confession, penance and forgiveness in the way it has, has really undermined Christian principles.
And yes, I have on my asbestos suit...
