Adding bolts to established routes is and always has been b.s. Don't try to force sport climbing "rules" on all of us. Replacing ratty old bolts or beefing up anchors is fine but if something is to hard/scary for you, stay off! Drilling G.U. is part of the trad ethic, you place the bolts where you can, not at some predetermined distance. The rush of climbing away from gear on a F.A. with a few hooks and a drill not knowing where you can stop is something to experience before you desecrate someone else's masterpiece.

I see your point, but I'd be remiss not to "cast out" that I've known a few 'uber'trads™™ who claimed using hooks was "less than wholesome",a nefarious business at best, and a complete cheat at worst. The same guys would "dirt you" if you as so much weighted the rope, sayin' the whole time
"Unclean, unclean..."
(Just pokin' you in the back with a stick (clip, of course)~my part in this tale ends "then I found big bolts..."uncleaner™"...)

The people be bumpin' (At Bump City)
The joint be jumpin' (At Bump City)
The mamas be humpin' (At Bump City)
Hey, while the band be pumpin',
'Said the band be pumpin',
The beat be somethin',
Ow! One time y'all!
––that's the chorus from "Down To The Nightclub", from the album Bump City (above).
Well, this thread keeps bumpin' – yet knott another word from Mark Stroeve, who
evidently has a rather short memory. Damn, I can't even start a good flame-war anymore!
Anyway, with all due respect, Larry Graham and Bootsy are awesome players, but IMO,
Rocco is on a whole 'nother level (funk), just like Jaco was far and away in a league of
his own with his innovation and range of voices he got out of the instrument.
When I first heard East Bay Grease (1970), it fuçking blew me away. I still listen to
it fairly often. Hopefully you will have this in your collection. I have the LP and the CD:
On the first track Knock Yourself Out, at exactly 5:30 into it,
there is the most insane stuttering, syncopated bit of bass that
comes in here––I still listen to this shIt with my mouth agape.
This is knott hyperbole. I am SERIOUS.
Please have a listen and let me know what you think!
I have more examples––but I don't want to play all my cards just yet.
(plus, this thread might need some more bumpin')

I like the bass in 'There's A Riot Goin' On', the Sly album of 1970. Is that Larry Graham?
