hey there... this is very interesting, and more so, since most of you all know each other... i just drop by on occasion.... but mine, is from neebeeshaabookway... it means tea-woman, in ojibwe... got it from a friend's brother in law, patowatomee/odawa family, in michigan....(we had a bit of native, so he offered the name, so i would have an indian name now, too).....(patowatomee--spelling here, may be wrong--and ojibwe, are sometimes the same, with some words)....

it is the name that i use to write my novels, as they are inspired and not really planned out too much.... and teas in many cultures can be medicinal, or inspiring, or for social comaradarie, etc... and my stories are for reaching the heart... hmmmm, like a good cup of tea.... (but, hey you all, coffee's good too) (shot of whiskey can't hurt, but could sure ruin a good story, past, two)

i don't climb (but loved yosemite area, and coast of calif), but my brother "chappy" used to all the time, knows me as beth, but all else in texas, know me as liz....or neebee...

thanks for this interesting fun....

It's the first 5 letters of my last name, Shackelford.
It's been my nickname since I can remember.
It was my dad's nickname as a kid too.

I used Shack for the Taco stand cuz I figured it would be less anonymous...and Todd Shackelford is a mouth full.

Many know but here it is... At a pre marriage party at Honolulu's famous Femme Nu, my bud's decided to call me "Nohea". In Hawaiian it means, handsome, attractive, and lovely. A fitting description but then look at me and one must wonder what "Nohea" sounds like in english.

Aloha,

In one hundred words or less:

I heard it from a friend I've climbed with for a while.
Light as a feather, hooks of steel...
It's sarcastic.
I consider my gym climbing experience combined with my "traditional ethics".

If I had to try to qualify the name...
I would say that when I'm at my best, maybe I go for broke.
Maybe I'll never give up, and always work to improve.
Still, I don't mind hanging on a rope which might be disagreeable to the old guard.

Manapua!!!
(still working on living up to the stories)

E.L. Cracko, sorry to miss you in the meadows, the time will come, though, I know it!
Have you climbed @ Devil's Tower? There's a climb there we should do together, with your name on it.

"Cade LLoyd gave me the name due to my prowess of skinning chicken legs. "

I'm a little slow. Why would somebody skin chicken legs?

Karl,

We would have these spicy habanero chicken barbecues and I would pull the skin off prior to cooking.

I've been widely known as Off White since 1977, long before Al Gore invented the intertubes. Seems like an avatar name, but fact is I cash checks and get mail with this old nickname, and it's what my family calls me. I once got a letter addressed to :

Off White
Tenino, WA

Some folks prefer to call me Doug, they either predate the nickname, are more comfortable with a name that doesn't have a joke at the core, or just like that better. No big deal, it doesn't make either of me schizophrenic.

My 'real' name is so generic that it seemed pointless to make up much of a psuedonym. There's always, always, at least one other Dave...

A while back Frank at DT saw me geared up and commented about some of my OLD gear. I was wearing a pair of Asolo's from 1980 (my good shoes were at the re-sole shop). He said I looked like some kind of "walking museum". The next time I saw him at the tower he introduced me as -"hey, this is the museum". But of course it is not true! I have some new gear.

Tarbuster
'Tis a mystery, even to me.
Google it and you get pages & pages of ...yup...a product that cuts sledge, removes tar.
Hmmm…

In the bad 'ole days I’d had lots of nicknames bestowed upon me such as:

roy boy
cowboy
roy balls
balls
the boy
libido roy
beed
bidus
beedsauce
beedwagon
the side of beef
potatohead
tate
sharon tate
thatasssholeroy
hummer
lamoille
lamoille royo
'lem
lem-bott
cowboy roy
cowboy roy the boytoy of joy

-Yikes!

I wanted, I NEEDED a clean slate:
I desired to call my own shots, be my own master & all that hearty stuff.
So, I decided to take destiny into my own hands and name me-self something snappy for the forum kick.

But I couldn’t find it.
And then, out of the nether regions of my mind, out of thin air as it were or maybe straight out of me arse,
Out popped: Tarbuster.

My soopertopo name derives from a rough translation of the Hungarian expression "Bring some truffles to watch the whales breed". The expression is from the novel "Patoot Goy" by Pavlov Dingle about a young woman's coming of age during the Prague cheese crisis of 1934. The protagonist in the story is short, has a stubby nose used for rooting grubs and is obscenely hairy. Just like me.

There it is - just like a fairly tale. Man.

Much as I would've liked to remain anonymous, I felt it would've been somewhat suspect and a dead giveaway when all my posts ended in "Buy Sterling Rope!"

holy crap... I'm sorry if anybody saw that!

Poop Ghost was the name of a band in college some friends of mine started. The name didn't stay for very long. The band long since broke up.

I always thought it was funny... and I like *'s.
