Big Stone's first live fire exercise? Classic! So, how long was it before your chums suggested another alpine outing? "Eiger Direct over Spring break? C'mon Bob you know you had fun last time even if you can't recall just where it was." LOL

nah, i'd had plenty of close calls with rockfall -- a few choice volleys on middle and the right side of the apron come to mind -- but that festering frozen chossheap was falling apart around us, and it was all funneling straight into the couloir. almost got bullseyed maybe 15 times in the 45 minutes it took to get outta that chute. damn, alpine climbing is so much fun!! and there's all that great bouldering in the talus fields!!

In honor of the recent Mt Hood rescue, here's a rare shot of BVB himself frolicking in the alpine in Feb 1981 at Illumination Rock on Mt Hood, probably within 50 yards of the last fateful campsite of the recently lost and found again people and their dog.

Hey Off, that is a truely great photo. You asked for incriminating photos of BVB, but I can't top that. The infection leg, lung stuff is all true. I sat through one episope with BVB in Ocean Beach until his Dad finally showed up and hauled him to the hospital. I thought he was gonna give out at any moment.

hey mike, last time i went to do california night ('06) the trail was gone.
i mean, GONE.
wft is it with kids these days???? 'friad of gobis? of scars?? of 20' groundfalls?
let's hook up down there before summer heat sets in and rebuild those trails.
throw down the gauntlet, as it were.
or, at least get a couple laps in for ourselves.....

Indeed. Another page or two and this thread will no doubt outlive its subject.

The trail to Cali Nights was there all summer and last month. It's about 3 feet wide. Maybe the trails are in a dif spot. Let me know if you want to know where they currently are. And yes ground falls from the top of that climb do suck.

It ain't whether you win or loose,
Or how hard you can pull down,
It's all about how how you look.
And you look Mah-Velous... just Mah-Velous.

Wow!
That is an awsome likeness and really fun to look at.
And I must agree on your assessment of the man's presence.
Waxing Now...
I mean, I was out skiing a cuple/three days ago and I caught a wiff of that feeling you git' when yer really where you wanna be; sumtymes it's like a flavor or a memory, a sweet extract of all that is rich, hopeful, & pleasurable in your fleeting life.
WEll, there are people who seem to act as a locus for this sort of thing too, people who embody and share a banner of some distilled spirit of any pursuit and to whom many of us seem to gravitate. In a word: a repository of infectious enthusiasm.
Beebs, yer one a' them type a guy. Right on then Bro.
