The mountain has been known as Denali by all Alaskans for decades and the Athabascans for centuries.
The purpose of the head honcho traveler in visiting our beautiful state ? Who knows, but he did have dinner with the wife of the Carlyle Groups CEO at her anchorage estate. Check out the ties this organization has with defense industry, big oil, political funding, then add in big O's green light to Shell and you can start to sketch a picture differing from the official excuse of highlighting global warming. Interestingly potus announced the fast track construction of six new icebreakers the next morning after dinner. Now what would these new assets most benefit and why the hell would you need them in a rapidly warming and supposedly soon to be ice free Arctic Ocean?

Well, either you can't read the posts above, you haven't been following along with the relevant news, or you're so obsessed Obama you've blinded yourself. The fact you live in AK and don't know what's going on could easily lead one to believe the latter.

Bottom line? Obama is throwing climate change and environmental protections under the bus as part of the new geopolitical wrangling over Arctic resources. Crikey, you repubs and wingnuts should be standing up and cheering Obama for doing exactly what you want on both fronts. Clueless.

This just in.
In Alaska they told the President that the new mountain name is "the great one."
He said, "You named it after me? I humbly accept."

Cheering over the geopolitical wrangling? I think not, more like biting our tongues for the moment. And if you think that the balance of power requiring this response is the sole reason you are a blind leftist loon. First, this situation has been developing since the 1980's and along with it calls for increased arctic presence for the U.S. With the fall of the USSR the calls faded into inaudibility along with reduction in u.s. forces (closing of Adak and other forward bases). Now what is new? A rush for resources? No that has been happening in slow motion since the 1970's with fishing, minerals and oil. One little difference is that their is a major oil company engaged in development on either side of this ice curtain that is suffering as a result of sanctions and constant attack by enviro's. What avenues and connections would this multi national pursue for relief? Well, one thing for sure is that the Chicago machine in charge of the executives political and financial future knows how to go green. I'd say Valerie is grabbing for green with both hands.
Of course you won't believe your leader capable of anything but the truth, the whole truth, so help me allah, but the rest of us have long ago given up on great land deals in Florida, a reduction of $2500 in our health care premiums in the individual market, and any geopolitics free of corruption from the leftists, or rightists for that matter.

Hey, Repubs- Reagan Airport used to be called Washington Airport, after our first, critically-important president. How come you guys didn't get all in a tizzy (and 'disappointed') when that name was changed?
Oh yeah...because it was your St. Reagan.
Still....it's ok to shove aside the first president of our beloved country so you can stick Reagan's name on it? WTF?
Would you guys be peeing your pants right now if Obama had renamed McKinley as Mt. Reagan?
