After further review as well as listening to an argument a shark expert that I know I believe that Mick was KNOT attacked. The shark was swimming at the surface, it became curious as to what Mick was, got caught in his leash, thrashed about, and well, we saw the rest.
Whites attack from below on a vertical vector. You've all seen the shots of a fully airborne white with seal in mouth.
Mick reports one pressure ding on the board and no bite marks. It's hard to imagine that big fish ever had it's mouth open.
But at the time I'm pretty sure if you tried to convince Mick he wasn't being attacked he'd flip you off and tell you the same.

^^^^^^give the man a cigar. That is the correct answer, as Great Whites are generally ambush predators and if Mick had really been attacked he would probably have something to show for it other than a video. It was just curious. Thank you for putting that up, as I've been hesitant to say that here for some reason. Doesn't mean it wasn't a scary encounter btw....

I spent three days in January out with Jaun Oliphant and Ocean Ramsey. Juan is the one that made the observation. There's many a picture of Osh taking a quick ride on a White. They know sharks.
Good times!
And now for more cowbell.
BTW, I'll be in Monterey in two and a half weeks participating in the shootout. Will be staying with kev and julie.

The man got a punch in on a great white.. buddy/competitor came to help at his own unknown risk.. its a serious story with a perfect outcome..I wondered if it was an attack or not myself.. regardless that's one hell of a close encounter I would not like to have.
Got to snorkel in the ocean for the first time back in May. A return trip to my birthplace with my dad almost 40 years after leaving at age 5.
Had so much fun I'm headed to Peurto Rico in September.. I am so in love with tropical oceans now.
The spot my dad took me swimming when I was 1 day old.
Cool spot..If we had stayed and I had grown up here..pretty sure I woulda been big wave surfer...This place gets big but not so much this day.

The white pointer had passed Mick and became entangled in the leash. Watch the video, it's dorsal was moving away and it changes direction and thrashes.
I have a friend who was surfing waipio valley and a tiger shark was cruising through and got hung up in his leash and drug him 200yds before it broke free... Scary stuff , took him 3 months to paddle out again.
Aloha

The dorsal looked odd to me, dark and floppy/thin.Certainly not a tiger like home.
Aloha and be well

A few from South Africa - These are not the really good ones:)
Everything here was shot ambient light. The first two shots were on scuba and should have had strobes but I had some electrical malfunctions - South Africa happens...

Nice Kev. What's your rig?
I have a Nikon d300s in a Nauticam housing, with two Inon strobes. Got a few lenses, from a fisheye to a 200mm macro.

My entire underwater camera set-up cost more than my new Subaru Forester.

This one is for Kev
Coral Sea, South Pacific
Taken with a Sea & Sea pocket camera.
I swam out into the middle of this school of sharks, they parted and just circled around me....
