Malemute, if indeed ST has jumped the shark, then it us Supertopians that have allowed it not Chris. But Malemute, I hope you are wrong. It is still a good forum, but we have the responsibility, IMO, to "self-police", so to speak. I don't mean that to be censoring, but using our common sense.
I have never written anything abusive, but silly/stupid, yes, and the opening quote JStan used in the OP is one from a thread I started out of fun (not a troll), but some people took it (my intentions) wrong, and on the advice of several Taco Standers, I nuked the thread.
I still think it is one of the best forums around. If those of you who agree with me, then perhaps quiet words in people's ears, if possible. Chris doesn't need the aggro, IMO.

I get a laugh out of that supposed F-18 over Iran schtick.
First, no route from Europe to Dubai comes within 250 miles of Iranian airspace.
Second, any pilot who entered Iranian airspace would have some serious explaining
to do to his superiors - even Marines don't go out of their way to create trouble,
especially for themselves. No doubt I'll be told I don't know what the phuk

That repeated demand of real names as protection against bad behaviour isn't anything I believe would ever make a difference. Not that simple.
There's Supertopians who's posting mean, ugly hateful lying crap under their real names and friendly, polite and funny posters who uses handles.
It's the mind and personality of the Suportopian which decides what they post. What one writes is a reflection of what goes on in one's head. To me - if you write ugly and hateful posts, you're ugly and hateful in your head. Very often that same head is also spiced with moral cowardness and sheer stupidity.
It shows when someone is good, too.
(Make note, one can become angry once in a while, that's not what I'm talking about.)
I will never use my real name. Forget it.

The holier-than-thou attitude that some have about the use of their real names as an avatar is bullsh#t.
There are lots of people here who use an avatar, and I have no idea who they actually are. Most of the time, it really doesn't make any difference to me...what matters is what they have to say, and how they say it.
