So what's the frequency and severity of thunder and lighting storms at CoR in June?
Last year it snowed on the first day of summer. (on nearby mountain tops)
So like a boy scout, be prepared.

On one COR trip, we went into Burley and got Chinese food (not a very wise choice). This was my fortune cookie, which I thought was rather poor advice for a climber!

Phylp, I see you are on the short list. I'll be sure to bring a nice bottle of vino from Firenze. Some Ponte Veccio Chianti or something.

Philo-
Last year there were some afternoon thunderstorms, but I'll let Fritz elaborate...we were all at the Bloody Fingers Corridor.

Bluering! Sorry, but I will move you to camping elsewhere status. Hope to see you anyway.
Weather in late June from looking at this site. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/daily/US0021:13?climoMonth=6
Highs in the high 70's, lows in the low 50's for long term averages.
All time highs for those dates are in low 90's & lows in the high 30's.
Normal precip for the entire month is about 1.13" and can come as snow, light rain, or as a thunderstorm gully-washer on occasion. Rainwear is recommended, so that it won't rain.

To elaborate on last year's trip--there was some lightning associated with afternoon thundershowers. Fritz and Ralph had great views of a lightning strike about a mile away from the Bloody Fingers area.

It looks like I'm out, darn it!
My parents are coming from Florida to vacation with us in Tahoe that week. My wife just reminded me....
Bummer too, I was pretty stoked on this.

All this wine talk is making me a bit jiggy. I am still so wanting to go but it will be a maneuver to pull it off. Spider sounds like he might know something about the Dago Red. We need to talk. I have always wanted to turn Fritz on to some good tips on Italian wines and it seems Spider has already primed him. City of Rocks has always been a fascinating place for me and not only for the climbing. It just draws me like some mystical destination. And I haven't even been there yet, at least not in the physical sense.

The talk about wine has me thinking about finding some South Tirolean red; can't remember the label info from the Pension Grohman's stuff, but it was really great with just about any sort of food.
(This was really a "stealth" bump!)

I'm making plans to show up the weekend before. Not sure how far into the ST week I'll be around yet and hoping work does not mess up the plan...

Fritz,
We're arriving early and have reserved sites 61-63 up on the hill for the 20th-24th. Thanks for the offer, we'll try to visit. Should be some damn yahoos from Texas up there, Gilroy, philo, Crump, maybe others. Approach with caution.

DDriver, for the record I am not a Texan nor am I a yahoo from Texas. I spent two years teaching in Texas which is when and where I met all of you Yahoos. I became an Honorary Stupid Brother because of my honorable stupidity not my place of birth.
Carry on.

I don't know Phil, I'm thinking that at least when we were there, Texans owned more of the private acreage in Gunnison county than Coloradans. Might be true of a large part of SW Colorado. :-) Well, at least it felt that way.
