Seems like a picture of "Dike Route" in TM is needed...

here's another:

marty(r) on his way up

the locale of Sun Blessed at Squamish has both that dike, and another cutting up roughly perpendicular to it:

Brock leading that first pitch very carefully the first bolt is high up

The cliff with a prominent dike mentioned above:

Sooooo much coooooool stuuuuuuuuufff!!!

Some of my favourites to look at on the west face of the Chief:

Polished white dyke running right to left on the upper part of the northernmost bullet. Not an established route & likely tragic.

[/img]

Tantalus wall upper right: Cerberus 11d, The Labrynith 12+, & Wrist twister Asomethingeasy i think are all shown left to right.

[/img]

The many times mentioned Black Dyke in a few pieces.

[/img]

[/img]

And of course the Hamish F masterpiece: Genius Loci 5.12 climbs hectic, face melting slab into some thin dyke and crack climbing before the rewarding fat dyke that traverses back diagonally right across the centre of the grand wall @ 10+. Would love to see that photo of gf on that pitch if someone's got it?? looks like such a rad place.

For what it is worth . . . it is dike not dyke. Whitemeat those are probably intrusions in your second photo on the east ledges descent, not necessarily dikes.

You all need to clean up your grammar.

"Textbook" dikes ...
not to be a dick about it, but where the dike is raised above the surrounding stone would be "Textbook" IMO. Some of chicken_skinner's (FA of) Karma pics are about to blow the roof off the joint.

If you want to put up a route on a dyke, Ryan, I think this one may not be taken, yet.

Damn, I love it when you geologists talk dirty!
Thanks for clearing that up! :-)

Can we divide dikes into innies and outies? The ones that stick out being more likely not to come apart while you climb? That is a striking dike, FM, but it looks to be that somewhat suspect stuff (basalt?) which the Squamish Black Dyke is made of. A kind of lure to the unwary climber.

Nice shot of the Middle Teton FortMentäl!

Another dike in the 'Horns:

Edit: MH2, That would be an innie. A crumbly one at that.

MH2, Al Givler's reluctant tales of the Black Dike made a lasting impression on me.
It is a nice line, though.

Thanks kalimon! For those of you that don't know by now, MH2's list of undone climbs compared to those he's been on at Squamish is but a squalor comparison.

I know where that possibly unclimbed dyke is Andy, have never bothered to look at the start but it's probably a great idea.

Geologist ?:

What's the deal with diorite knobs & those odd granite huecos with quartz inside you sometimes find?? Are they part of the dike/dyke family?
