Not counting the GOL sucked... but those refs were hitting the slovenes with a lot of soft yellow cards in the second half.
Too bad no overtime.

Referrees should be a calming background influence.
Between this game and the whole NBA Finals, plus I'll throw in the blown perfect game for Detroit, I have zero confidence in any of these officials.

Lalas just called the Mali ref a disgrace...we got robbed. The replay shows absolutely no off side and Bradley & Altidore were being held back.

I've heard it said that bad calls by refs is part of the game - good teams will win anyway. Or something.
WE GOTTA WIN against Algeria, and ENGLAND"S GOTTA WIN against Slovenia! Man!

An Uzbek ref for England? Pray tell where was he expected to get
the experience to qualify him to ref a World Cup match? He's made a
hash of a number of calls but no howlers yet.
I'd love to know how much Lampard is paying for his lovely view of the
proceedings. He certainly hasn't troubled himself overly in either match.
Heskey has certainly been involved but his ponderous pace isn't troubling
the Algerians. Defoe would cause them much more grief. I thought Fabio
had seen the light and was going to start him.
Having just watched another replay of the Malian's disaster. There were
actually 4 Slovenes with their arms wrapped around Americans.

Dont like soccer? Then don't post messages on a World cup thread. No one cares what you think.
England looked terrible but for the US, its going to all about Algeria. I can't wait!

Look buddy I had the misfortune to actually watch alot of the England-Algeria game so I'll post a comment on it if I feel like it.
And I'm glad you can't wait for what will probably be another thrilling 0-0 tie--you must live a very interesting life!

Hey Port,
If you watch a movie in a language you don't understand it would
probably be pretty boring, no?

Where did that come from? I think everyone here is paying attention to the WC. WTF???
Still, the US losing to that call by that Malian ref is prolly Bush's fault. Couldn't be Obama's fault, they're both black, right?
Haha! Just sayin...

I know everyone is deservedly slagging the ref who made an abysmal call and I know that Helen Keller could have officiate the match with greater aptitude...
however...
none of those bogus calls would have mattered had the US actually played some effing defense. It should have been 2-1 or 2-0 US. That is the one piece of the puzzle that always seems to be missing is an aggressive and competent backfield and with goal scorers like we have, that could give us enough of an edge to be really competitive.
Defense wins games.

Sorry for being an ass....
But it seems like every online forum has someone pointing out how boring soccer is. And I get it. But sports like baseball and basketball bore me to death. But I don't go to the "lakers in six" thread and state what a stupid game basketball is. I guess I'm tired of hearing it.
Case in point, Glenn Beck hating on soccer. Ignorance at its finest.

Soccer, more than popular sports in the US such as hoops and football, is most enjoyable to watch if one understands the strategy of the game, and the movement away from the ball. If you only watch the ball in most soccer games, it seems too much like ping pong for the typical American who is used to either lots of scoring, or huge mutants creaming each other. (I've never understood the popularity of baseball here in the US.)That is why soccer never took off in the NASL years, and why I believe it will never be close to as popular as it is in the rest of the world.
I played soccer from elementary school through two years of college in the ACC. I know the game well, and even given that I must say that I have found watching the NBA finals more exciting than the World Cup.

I just can not believe that Mali ref. The officiating has really been top notch thus far, but that guy should be banned from international refereeing forever. Go England. Can't believe Germany lost, they did have 10 though so that explains it a bit. This is getting exciting.
