Well I would not exactly call it high speed, more like a couple of beer cans and a long string.

I just want to make sure that the ranch is properly represented.

I am very fortunate indeed. Living here is not all "beer and skittles". It can be difficult at times. Town isn't just around the corner. Gas ain't cheap. We plan our trips to town.

The house isn't insulated. We have recorded temps at 45 degress inside during the winter. My wife and I call it "indoor camping". We live on solar, and truck our water in. You can't sh#t and flush the paper down the lu, it has to be thrown away so we don't trash the environment and sesspool. Everything we do here requires thought. There is 60 year old plumbing that is on the brink of failing. We are fixing this. We have had times where everything froze and there was no water for 2 weeks. I'm not whinning, just putting things in perspective.

Trust me, Dominnos is not delivering pizza up here. Nor is anyone else without alot of prepation and planning.

Our being here is a privilege, nothing else. We have been given the privilege to live and play here as long as we take care of the place. Over the years far too many have taken advantage of this place and trashed it, climbers included!

Beyond belief.

I look at it as the Have's and the Have Not's. For some reason (some folks on this thread fall into this catagory) believe that just because somebody has something they don't, they are entitled. I firmly disagree with this idea.

We worked hard to be here. We have respect for the owners and their wishes and will continue to do so. It's private property. The ranch was here long before the federal govt. came along and grabbed everything they could get their hands on.

Anyone on this site been to yosemite and seen what they have accomplished?

Yes, you may get accidentally hit by the first bullet, the one that you don't hear. Probably happens all the time during hunting season - others who aren't visible or audible are nonetheless in range. But you're supposed to hear the first shot, whether it's the report or the richochet, and then hit the dirt until you figure out what's safe.

Don't the movies always show those who hear a gun, but don't know where the shot came from, taking cover? How could they do that if they didn't hear the gun?

ps I was joking about the internet cafe at the ranch. Power and water would be insuperable problems. And although I've been to Joshua Tree many times, and been intrigued by the existence of the inholding, I've never felt any urge to trespass.

Ron, I was not talking about 9mm. My 9mm likes 145 grain subsonic rounds. I specifically said guns with a range of over 1K meters.

While I am here I have to throw down for Rincon, the OP of this thread. He is a friend of mine.

Some of us may disagree with him about guns or other things. That is not reason to call him names and malign his character. And it is perfectly within his rights to voice his opinion on the forum here. It’s not like he’s ratting anyone out. The shooting is legal and my opinion is that it should be so.

I have done more new backcountry routes with Rincon than I can remember, and an El Cap Route. He is the partner everyone dreams of: solid, skilled, reliable, forward thinking and funny. He is also a cancer survivor and set an example for all of us as to how to have grace in the face of adversity.

It is totally cool to disagree with him, but comments like STFU and die are bad form. And he is definitely not a whiner.

Sounds dangerous - get drunk - shoot guns - go climbing - whoohoo...

Fortunately the gorilla was totally cool when I was living there. Coco came to the Cohn ranch thru his work welding big cat cages. One night we were hiking out toward Echo Cove in the moonlight and we came across some tourons getting ready to poach the Keys Ranch. We hid in the brush and Coco made cougar calls at them (he was pretty convincing too). The poachers got real quiet and jittery and nervously got back in their SUV and drove off. We were rolling on the ground laughing, totally hysterical!!! Sorry that bad things happened after that:(

It is nice to think of you and Hilde are watching over that place now, pretty special!

There are some relatively slow rounds that can still go over a klick.

Perhaps even a 9mm from a long barrel and ridiculously lofted.

But my point is that it is an unwise assumption.

I recall my saying STFU, but I never said "die". If somebody did this, then it's poor form.

Rim'Con'Job maybe a great guy and a cancer survivor, but so is my wife (a cancer surviror).

It's apples and oranges. He has a right to bitch, but that's about it with regards to what happens here on the property.

That's the jist of this thread.

Hell, I'd like to meet him sometime. Probably a really nice guy who had to struggle with something I've dealt with first hand.

there is a tobogan run in jaimaica with a karate camp right next door, so why you are doing a tobogan run, you can here tai kwan do next door, WTF, over?

is that legal?

i'm jus sayin,

or if you are practicing breaking blocks, and you are all ready, and you are concentrating, all of a sudden, whoosh!

i mean, these guys should have some respect.

there was a trap shoot next to the mint 400 motorcycle race one year,

nobody complained, every dirt bike race should have trap shooters, what say?

Sorry to say Alisa, while I did have some fun times with Jim, you never really saw the real person(s) him and Karen were. They were selfish, indignant, thieving as#@&%es.

Nobody screwed them, they screwed themselves by thinking they were entitled.

They were and are, bottom feeders.

It was not you.

Rincon is a stand up guy - y'all would probably get along just fine.

Well, maybe that meeting could occur. I'm always up for meeting new people with interesting tales to tell.

It's not like I live in hole and hide behind monikers nobody can figure out. At the very least I have always been open about my internet identity.

My name is Robert Fonda and I live in Joshua Tree.

It shouldn't take Einstien long to figure out how to get a hold of me. And he's dead!

Go figure.

All in all, I'm a pretty nice guy, very vocal, but still largely harmless.

Uh oh, I'm in trouble now!

We probably have, I've just met so many people of the last 20 years of climbing that I can't remember who's who unless I'm around them a ton.

Cheers to you!

"BTW, whoever commented that Section 6 is BLM land is incorrect. It was sold by the BLM to the Dept. of Parks & Recs. in San Bernardino County in the late 60's."

Apparently one of us is mistaken as to section number. I remembered the section to the left of Park Blvd which was transferred for use as a recreation area as being section 5. In the 90's there was an effort to put a swimming pool in on it. Caused a fuss. I could be wrong. I remembered section 6 as the section to the East of that in really broken country. Whatever its number that was BLM land in the 90's. Have to go dig out the maps to be sure.

Well, I can assure you that I have spoken with the director of the BLM in Barstow concerning this issue. I promise you, I know what I'm talking about.

Section 6 has been transfered.

Nice post up there Robert BTW ^^^ that everyone kept talking around with gun-banter.

Erik and I always consider it a great privilege to be invited out to visit. We're looking forward to the next Cohn Ranch "Joshua Tree 5-star dick-wrenching mega-classic." ...

hey robert

You're still hauling water? Sorry to hear the well hasn't panned out. Any plans to resurrect it?

With all that galv pipe I saw, it's a wonder you have any water flow at all! Good luck on the plumbing refit! May your copper stay clean! Remember, there's no such thing as too much flux, but there is such a thing as too much solder!
