I've taken some noobs climbing and it's always funny to see the guys muscle their way up, while the ladies dance up.
There's still way more guys at the top of the sport though. Is that just because more guys do it, or do they have a stength to weight advantage?

Gender Neutrality? As an "issue" in climbing?
I golf with women that can kick my ass. (I'm a guy)
There are women that ride motorcycles and race cars WAY faster than I would want to go.
There are women that base jump, and cage fight and raise children.
There are men that work in day care centers.
Climbing is about getting up a route clean. The route does not care who you are. But today everything has to be race/gender/sexuality.
I'm sick of it. Why can't we just be "people"?

I read it again.
I think the author is really the "hippopotamus" and she wants to sleep with "Patrick".

Why is climbing 'sport' versus 'activity'? Why is climbing different than hiking? My only competition is my mind that's why I love climbing. I don't really care if Hans Florine speed aids The Nose in 25 seconds with a f#cking rocket strapped on his back. How/Why does that affect anyone in any way other than being proud of his achievement and making people who like to climb fast test THEMSELVES to climb faster. Why does gender have anything to do with this at all? I can make carpentry a competition with other skilled carpenters if I wanted to but would that make it a 'sport'? I just dont get why people want to push it in that direction. Maybe I'm alone in feeling this way.
