hello all
I'm still gathering infos for my september trip in Yosemite. Before coming in the valley, we want to discover the needles (I have infos on this) and maybe chimney spire as this one is located between needles and the valley, and seems really beautiful.
Does anyone have infos about the routes ? I can't find anything on the web...
thank you all
thierry

Closed right now for falcon nesting, should open back up in a few weeks. It's in the SEKI guide, which has been out of print for 15 or so years. I can photocopy you the pages on your way up if you'd like.

Fun Rock. The falcons don't actually nest there, it's their hangin' out spot.
Whatever the case, they're VERY protective of it.

ok thank you for these answers
But it seems to me that you are talking about the needles....
I'm looking for informations about chimney spire in Sequoia national Park. I had already found where is the spot and how to go in, but I'm mainly looking for a route list or a topo, just to know if we will make a stop or go directly to the valley...
thank you

It's not actually in the Park, but the National forest.
Fun place, by Crystal Wall.
Camped there for a few weeks, in '97.

It is not very close to the driving route between the Needles and Yosemite Valley (or Tuolumne Meadows), unless you are already planning a side trip to see the big trees in Sequoia National Park.
It is not as beautiful as the formations in the Needles, or in Yosemite. Its main problem is that it sits below a higher wall to the NE - it is not a prominent summit. In the nice looking photo on summitpost, this higher wall is to the left:
The view you get when approaching the standard routes is:
Better to spend more time in the Needles - longer and more spectacular routes there.
Not to be confused with Castle Rock Spire in Sequoia National Park - that one is quite spectacular. But also difficult to access because of poison oak.
