A trip report - the boys desert weekend interpreted by Crimpergirl.
Too much office time and not enough climbing time makes for unhappy people. To head off this possibility, BrassNuts and Eeeyonkeee headed out to the Utah desert for some fun in the sun (and rain and wind it turns out).
How could this place not be healing?
The guys hit the road late Thursday heading toward Castle Valley in the Great White. The Great White is a one comfy assault vehicle!
The first goal of the trip was Fine Jade on the Rectory. Some nearby climbers snapped some of the photos. Very cool! It’s unusual to have more than butt shots when the belayer has the camera.
Nice photos taken by other climbers of Eeeyonkeee
Just so no one feels ripped off, here is the requisite butt shot - BrassNuts
Eeeyonkeee summit photo on Fine Jade with Castleton in the background.
While the guys were climbing Fine Jade, BrassNuts looked down and noticed some ravens investigating his pack. As he watched, the birds opened his pack, unzipped the lid zipper, removed everything (rope tarp [which flew away], first aid kit, food). Having secured some high dollar Pro-Bars, the birds flew away! Smart birds. Hungry BrassNuts.
BrassNuts summit shot.
Cool flying saucer rock on the top of Fine Jade.
Castleton is such a striking tower (insert lightning [edit: offensive incorrectly spelled word has been corrected] jokes here) – one can’t help but take several photos of it.
The wind starts to whip on Fine Jade.
Eeeyonkee practices a modeling pose.
Next up was Crack Wars which is located on the west side of the Rectory.

Only one pitch was completed as the winds whipped up to crazy speeds.
The next day brought rain and cold temps. The guys hung around in Castle Valley in the rig. They did some hiking and reading. Forced rest day – beats a day in the office.
The following morning the rain and cold theme continued though happily it stopped raining relatively early allowing them to get some climbing in. They headed into Long Canyon where they did some routes on Maverick Buttress and other walls. In total they managed to get 4, 5.11s and 2, 5.10s climbed. Sounds like an excellent day to me!
Here are some photos from that day:
Butt Pygmy was one route they did. Sounded like it had an interesting foot camming under-clinging crux and was quite fun.
BrassNuts heads up…
And there goes Eeeyonkeee
Enjoying the view -
After dinner in Moab, they headed back to Castle Valley for the night. The next morning, they climbed Sister Superior.
Here is Eeeyonkee practicing other modeling poses before heading up Sister Superior…
And BrassNuts…
Looking over at the Rectory and Castleton – gorgeous!
The top of Sister Superior afforded a terrific view.
After rapping, and hiking back to the Great White, they made burritos in the luxury of the Great White and headed back to civilization.

Thanks - very pretty place.
I stayed home and tiled the entry way while they were out playing. Dave has climbed Castleton almost 30 times, I've done it once. Not sure about Eeeyonkeee.
Still trying to fix the photo glitch...

Great shots and some stellar climbs! Tomcat and I went to Moab a few years ago to climb Castleton. Unfortunately Tom blew out his bicep right before our trip. Hope to go back sometime.
Thanks for sharing.

What kind of OT BS is this? This forum is about self help, politics, religion, ecconomics, and sometimes poker. Please try to stay on topic Crimpie.
Other than that great TR.

Wow. First time seeing those shots. Fine Jade is the bomb. Jah Man, on Sister Superior, is nearly as good. Dave was an excellent climbing partner and a wonderful host (in his most excellent camper). I get out on trips over 3 days maybe once every 3 or 4 years. This one was one of the best.
