For the past six years I've had the MVP pass for Mammoth mtn, but was not able to come up with the cash for this years, so can no longer purchase these good deal passes.

Ok, it is $83 dollars for a lift ticket at Mammoth mtn, at least June mt is a little more affordable. To satisfy my curiosity googled several other ski areas, Jackson Hole, Taos, Deer Valley, Whistler, Grand Targhee, ect., I am now depressed. How in the Hell does anyone afford this sport?

Combine the lift ticket price with lodging and food-all of which will most likely be jacked up prices, way out of my league now.

At least I am into skiing the back country, but damn, I still like ripping it up at a resort. This isn't a pity party, just like to hear others opinions and if there are some ski areas that aren't so darn much money to ski.

Thank goodness climbing is cheap!

edit: I skied 69 days last year....say good-bye to that!!!

Backcountry skiing.
Do it with well trained friends. You get great exercise
and if you work hard, you get awesome trackless powder to play
in. Only costs the gas to get you there, same as going to
an area and playing.

Karen, the best deal is nite skiing at Mt High, for us SoCal locals. You buy their quad ticket, good for 4 visits, works out to about $19/outing. Many fewer people, nice environment.

Otherwise, you have to plan it out for a season pass where you want to go. For about 70 skiing days, it is pretty cheap that way. However, you're past that at Mammoth. I think you can still get season passes at a few places.

g'luck.

Thanks ken I will check that out, that's a great deal. I used to night ski back in the day and never minded the cooler temps.

I quit skiing the resorts a decade ago ... too expensive, too long of lines, and too many azzholes. Now I park in the resort lots and walk across the street and hit the backcountry...

Of course this year I did succumb and buy skate skis. Now I pay $5 to ski around in circles. And I hate to say it but it is kinda fun.

If you want to resort ski, it will get expensive.

But if you're skiing 50+ days a year, you could do that even at a resort pretty cheap. I think a pre-season Alta-Snowbird pass was about $1200. That's basically the best skiing in the country, and at 50 days, that's $24/day. Pretty cheap if you can and want to ski that much. Even Deer Valley tickets are cheaper if you buy ahead and/or are a local.

If you really want to ski that much, live somewhere you don't have to pay for lodging. Bring your own food. Or ski backcountry. There's ways around it.

Hit up the Parking Lot guys.
They used to sell passes once in a while.
Half price, they get paid overtime with Lift Tickets, then they hawk it for what ever.

Lucky or Safeway used to have good deals.

Watch out for Dirtbaggers, they will steel your boards right off the car in order to buy Wall Supplies for the Spring.

Best to Demo the latest greatest factory Atomic boards and rip the crap out of them as payback for ripoff ticket prices.

Yes Lissie, it really is $83 per day! Corporate rip offs!!!

I knew guys who sold their passes, nice to run into one of them sometime.

Actually Mammoth is offering unlimited skiing Mon-Fri all of January for 199.00, I'm up for that, looks like a friend and I are going up twice in Jan. and will ski at least 8 days, cool.

Do miss the days when skiing only cost 13 dollars, Hell I am aging myself!!! seriously though, it was affordable back then to most people, WTF happened?

I hike the back country and snowboard down... I just did it two weeks ago and had so much fun that I can't figure out why I'd never done it before.

I would bail out of here in a heartbeat but cannot yet, but that is not to say it won't happen in a few years. How close are you to Idaho Falls? and how's that area to live? curious...

San Jacinto is good also. Take the tram, 5 mile ski to the summit, play on the upper slopes all day and then an incredible 5 mile run back to the tram.

MT Lemmon opens today at 37 bucks. I having a hard time justifying that. But this may be the only chance I get.
