What I find funny is that Obama has to be one of the most humble President-elects we've had in a long time and yet people like Skipt and many on the right seem obsessed with perceiving his excellence as ego. The only thing I can reckon is that he makes people so self-conscious about their personal feelings of short-coming that they project an ego onto him. Kind of a "who does this guy think he is for being so good he must think he's perfect" sort of thing where the real issue is that people feel intimidated because he's smart and accomplished.

If you have actually listened to what he's said and what he's written about himself, he knows he's far from perfect. Stay off the sound bite blogs for a little while and you might gain a different perspective.

It seems like such a short while ago that you would see this kind of Dem ranting towards the Repubs. Now we hear it going back the other way. Just another sign of the swinging pendulum, and sour grapes from the losing party.

Obama is the only President Elect to have an "Office of the President Elect."

Humble?

Maybe black people aren't supposed to have such excellence?

Didn't take long for the "racist" meme to turn up. We should be prepared to be inundated with this nonsense for the next four years.

Actually, it's been in existence, and federally funded, for several decades. I believe it came about during the Eisenhower years.

The thing is, we have the lamest lame duck Prez imaginable and a definite executive branch power vacuum, so he is stepping in to partially fill it.

"No, I don't think it is too partisan."

this kind of thing makes me think that right-wingers are so out of touch with reality that they cant' even tell the difference between partisan rambling and a debate.

"There are so many things to love about the Rod Blagojevich scandal it's hard to know where to begin"

in case you're retarded: he is celebrating a tragic event in American politics, because he is a republican, and something bad is happening to democrats.

that doesn't make him wrong (he's not debating anything, he's just celebrating), but that sure as hell makes him partisan.

I liked it personally.

So *humble* he created The Office Of The President Elect, which had never before existed.

You're right, Obama is pretty damn funny.

EDIT: such a softball teed-up by HiDesertDJ that about six people beat me to the obvious.

Really?

Find for me one picture of the last President-Elect (or any of the previous ones) standing behind a podium that reads "Office Of The President-Elect" on it.

That's how humble Obama is.

Well, it was wrong for him to speak in complete sentences, which then made the guy an elitist. Right?

Have you noticed that we're in a time of national crises and that practically everyone is looking to Obama for leadership? He knows that whether or not our situation gets worse or gets a LOT worse depends on how confident people are that he is preparing himself to handle our problems on day 1. Making that office was an incredibly smart move. The level of competence and leadership that he has shown in the last month is a breath of fresh air. It's too bad that you're still too resentful to look for a post-election vantage point. Let's be honest...you're going to find fault with anything and everything that he does.

It receives about 7 million in federal funding. I read that recently, but I don't remember where so I can't link it. The act doesn't refer to an "Office of the Pres-elect"but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

He is a Pres-elect, right, performing Pres-elect duties?

If your upset because your man Bush is the lamest duck of them all and nearly completely ineffective, blame Bush himself for squandering his political goodwill and capital.

But no picture of any previous President Elect *humble* enough to stand in front of the *seal*?

Obama's the first.

Nothing wrong with it, but it ain't "humble", like HiDesertDJ would like us to believe.

The *duties* of our elected Federal officials are enumerated in The Constitution.

Where in The Constitution are the "duties" of the President-Elect described?

If Obama's assigning "duties" to himself, that supersedes The Constitution, and it's not *humble*.

Humble or not, I'm pretty sure it's called "filling the leadership vacuum."

You guys should really lay off the right wing hate media (or now known as the Blame Obama Network) for a few months. You're all starting to sound like my grandmother. For how much crying you do about people "blaming Bush" for everything you've got a pretty amazing head start on Obama.

It has the power of leadership, Skpit. Obama announces a Treasury Secretary and the stock market goes up 500 points. Pretty sure you don't need Constitutional power for that. And you should probably learn to spell "scandal" before you decide to start throwing it at people.

What's so great about this if that he did like all other President-elects did and stayed relatively quiet until January then you guys would be all "Where is Obama! So much for leadership when his country needs him." Heh.

Skipt, the entire edifice of politics is full of liars, crooks, and thieves. That much should be apparent by now. I don't think corruption is a partisan issue. I do think Obama represents the possibility of a change for the better, but overall, most of the crooks who got us to where we are now are still in power. It's disgusting. Obama, unfortunately, has to work with these people until they f-up so badly, sometimes in a criminal way, that they get the boot. He has to work within the existing structure, lame as it is, in order to transform it. Seems like there is a new scandal every couple months.
