OK, here is the latest beta for a Vegas Thanksgiving;

Layton just called. He has scheduled further treatment in Phoenix after vascular surgery did not have a good outcome in Vegas. Nonetheless he wants to do a show there (AND check out the Kolob, AND land in Utah where he can build, and I swear to god this guy is irrepressible!)
Indianclimber recommended I talk with Travis at DRS to see about a (bigger) venue for a Kor show.
Done.
He's looking into it.

Looks like it'll be a "SushilessFest" as nature is range-limited (hey, aren't we all), but Layton would be real happy with a BBQ. He's on a high protein diet.

I for one prefer what Minerals termed a Kingdom of Choss Valley Of Fire) to nearby Red Rocks for several reasons;
free camping
virgin rock (it might be choss but its MY choss)
warmer (2000' lower and more stuff in the sun)
shorter approaches (4WD required)
no curfew (do I hear a boisterous Hold 'Em tournament going on,...?)

Well??
(I bet Ninfa would even post a photo of the place,..)

Give me another week to ponder my ability to make it.

I'm considering flying to Vegas from ABQ. I'm considering shipping some items that will allow me to make sushi (I've seen a way this might work).

I'd need a few things (rented or borrowed) locally.

My life has been hectic lately what with Yosemite and then with a week long Yoga workshop where we hosted John Friend. This weekend will be a bit more settled.

I'll call you this weekend, Ron.

Let's see what others think about the camping scene (I like the idea).

I wouldn't fly out until Friday.

And I guess I'd rent a 4x4.... with full coverage.

LOL!!! - yeah... you got it, Ron.

PMB: yeah, let's get a head count. It wouldn't be that hard to do sushi one night so long as we don't blow it out like we usually do.

Got an email from a Vegas local who is also here on The Taco. Looks like I/we have ground support (ride, stuff to borrow, place to get stuff mailed).

I'd love to meet Layton. That alone is excuse enough to make excuses....

Yes nature... or for that matter any taco'ites.
If anybody is getting stuck on support details once arriving in Vegas, DON'T !

get a hold of me I will try to help out as much as I can.
I have a large (almost empty) house if anyone needs a night's rest to regroup, or ride out to the valley of Fire etc...

Thanks, Ron! Sorry to hear of Kor's continuing health troubles, but hopefully another talk would help with the financial side, anyway.

In case I can somehow make it, which date would the talk in LV be on? There are sometimes fairly cheap flights/deals from here. I may only have a few days, and don't know if any escapades outside LV/Red Rocks would be feasible.

the 4x4 road is the showstopper for Crimpie and BrassBalls. That 5th wheel ain't making it back there and we all know they ain't partin' with it any time soon.

Actually I'm considering a basecamp site that would be more easily accessible, but approaches would have to be by 4X4, and a daytime camp watcher (read "guard") would be a good idea as it is wide open BLM.

Show night is the big consideration actually.

Best would be saturday. Go in Wednesday. Cook the bird. Bag a virgin. Head out saturday.
A friday show would nix the VoF weekend by chopping it in half so you all would have to make do with that "Red" area.
