The unofficial start of the 2008 Yosemite FaceLift, for the SuperTopo crowd at least, is in exactly two months. SushiFest at Yellow Pines on September 23rd. Followed by five days of fun and public service with friends, in a place we all cherish. A good time for all. Ken (Chicken Skinner), Katie, and others have been working on organization since about October 1st last year.

This is just a reminder, especially for those who may not have made up their minds yet, or who haven't made arrangements with Ken for camping in the Valley, and with Doug (nature) for sushi on the evenings of the 23rd, 25th, and 27th, if desired. If you haven't had a confirmation from Ken and Doug, or haven't decided what you're doing, right now would be a very good time to decide, and let them know.

DON'T LEAVE IT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE - KEN IS VERY BUSY THE LAST FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE FACELIFT, AND DOUG HAS TO ORDER FISH WELL IN ADVANCE. Plus there may not be any camp space left, if indeed there still is. Don't hope that you can show up unannounced in Yellow Pines on the 23rd, and that there'll be space for you, or sushi to eat. And don't post your intentions here - send a message directly to Ken (camping) or Doug (sushi).

There's lot of information about the FaceLift on the Yosemite Climbing Association website (yosemiteclimbing.org/index.html), and of course on previous FaceLift threads.

I'm still waiting on Yager to confirm my spot, man. I e-mailed him.

I guess it's full or something, maybe I'll camp somewhere else...upper pines, north pines.

Ken, wassup?

I believe that's the idea - reservations, and payment, need to be done directly with Doug. Don't swamp him, or Ken, with messages, but do take care of it.

Doug has to spend quite a lot of money on everything that's necessary, in advance. And Ken has an astonishing amount of stuff to take care of, so the easier we make their jobs, the better.

Hopefully Ken and Doug will chime in with other things we need to know.

Here's what Doug said on the T-shirt thread:

"For Tuesday night [23rd] and Thursday night [25th] it's the standard $30/head/night with the standard food fare: big eye tuna, kajiki, tasmanian salmon from hawaii, uni, soft shell, unagi, anago, tobiko, smoked tuna, seared albacore, surf clam... the basics, ya know?

"On Saturday night [27th] it will work like last year with one small difference. I will put out a tip jar. Anyone that eats some sushi is asked to donate. Last year I split what was in the tip jar with the YCA. This year the entire tip jar goes to the YCA ($175 was the total last year).

"On top of that I am conspiring with Tim the pancake man to make breakfast each morning. [Eggs, pancakes, bacon/sausages, coffee.] We'll also have a tip jar out for that. We'll use the funds to keep the food stocks and anything left over is also a YCA donation.

"We'll also consider something similar for dinners.

"I know some folks would love to help and if you give me your day (on top of a little trash pickup) your sushi funds for one night will be covered. Duties will include food/beer runs, doing dishes and food prep.

"What I'm hoping to accomplish is to make it easier for people to eat well and to get out of camp earlier to pick up trash."

Quick reply. I am sure that everyone that has emailed me so far has a spot. I need to spend a couple days work to respond and work it out as to where you will stay. There are many other things that have come up. Please be patient and I will let you know soon.

Thanks,

Ken

I'll be arriving in the valley the 20th as well. Looks like finding a partner shouldn't be a problem, eh E?

Ya'll's can shoot me an email to confirm a spot on Tuesday/Thursday nights. Saturday night requires no reservation. I'll ask for money staring in a couple weeks.

Thanks Anders! I can't wait! I'm *sooo* ready. It's a paid vacation and thanks to Ken et al we get the deluxe treatment in the Valley. Times sure have changed ;-)

Nature - What's your price this time, or should I await the post here on the taco?

It'll be good to see you again. This time, I will have supplies for the day, plenty of water, and will not be as famished as I was last year. That first sushi meal you handed me was a life savor!

See you all in 2 months

Ain't that the truth!?

Jingy wasn't lookin' too good when I handed him that plate. Sushi is the kind of food that goes straight to the brain in a good way.

I'm doing the standards $30/head/night. I don't think I had real wasabi last year. That'll change this year.

YUUUUMMMMM!!!!

If Kathy's clueless about camping - I feel much better. I can't figure out where the Yellow Pines site is. Not that I have looked all that much but, it isn't listed on any of the links I have clicked.

Anyone able to provide the info?

You won't find Yellow Pines on hardly any map. It's not a public campground. It's a volunteer campground. You pull into the parking for Sentinel Beach and go left instead of right (to Sentinel Beach).

It's Deluxe! Finding camping is easy. IT's two large group spots. No brainer once you find it (and stop laughing at how set up you just realized you are ;-)

It's not walk in! You can sleep in your rig or set your tent up next to it. Read post 20.
