Reading about the Mayan calendar being one of the world's most accurate and it suddenly ending in 2012-2013 is kinda spooky.

are you sure the sorcerers weren't killed before they could finish the thing?
From what I read, don Juan Matus eluded to that possibility.

A diet of only corn produces hallucinations. The ancient Mayan sorcerers (preists, whatever)worshipped corn.

I think they were tripping.

well, hossjulia -

if you're right then, it won't make any difference

and

if you're wrong...it won't make any difference!

The Mayans did not believe that the world would end in/on 12-21-2012.

That is the end point for the evolution of the creative consciousness.

BIG difference--read, view, learn.

Here's a start.

Part two:

It is KNOTT doom and gloom on 12-21-2012-- but perhaps leading up to it may suck, until humankind is ready to accept and ascend to the higher consciousness that we were destined for.

edit: Thanks, Ray, for the linkage.

LOL! I'm still counting on alien intervention to save our asses. Didn't the Mayans have alien contact as suggested by their sculptures? Or was that another tribe? Or was van Daniken tripping on that corn too?

I don't think anyone is ridiculing anyone, mojede,

thought your post was thoughtful and interesting -

we're just playing and besides, there have been these
"end of world" predictions...forever, they've become a
kind of modern cliche.

But, I will say this - Dinosaurs used to rule the earth,
too.

You never know.

Looks like the Mayan were into some Black Magic
as well...

If, as some scholars claim, this is the start date of the calendar:

baktun 12 katun 19 tun 15 uinal 3 kin 16
Haab: 4 undefined
Tzolkin: 9 Cib
Mayan epoch: 11 Aug, 3114 B.C.E.

Shouldn't it be a pre-Mayan Calendar? or did the Maya make it later and put in an earlier start date?

Some authors have suggested it was made by the Olmec?

"Didn't the Mayans have alien contact as suggested by their sculptures?"--Mimi.

Yup, just like every other civilized nation/state in the WORLD--including ours.

Time for me to get the tin-foil hat re-adjusted for this next wave of craziness.

The movie was fine.

(Stupid and small) People decided they didn't like Mel because he said something stupid when he was drunk. Imagine that, someone drunk said something stupid.

Again, the movie was worth the watch, for sure.

one of the (perhaps biased) reviews I read
suggested the slant of the film was to show how
the Maya used "theatrics" to, essentially control
"the masses".

I like it when storytellers take risks
and really like history as subject for film
so, guess I gotta see it myself.
