According to Glen Dawson in Mugelnoos #3 the falls are not intentional.

RCS members Art Johnson, Jim Smith, Bill Rice, LaVere Daniels, Bob Brinton, and Howard Koster worked several weekends on that, and supposedly got stiffed on being payed.
Hey Werner, what do you think, was the base jump for real? That's crazy.

Probably a fake Gary. But I don't know.
And about those guys getting stiffed by the production company, that happened to me and Dale Bard once too.
The azzholes took off but me and Dale chased em down and made em pay, otherwise all four of their tires would have been slashed.

LOL, Werner. I wonder if the RCS crew did the same?
Nice shot of Traitor Horn in there, too, the FA of which was the same year, 1938. A. Johnson is listed on the FA team. Smith, Brinton and Johnson were the FA party on Fingertip two years earlier. Smith and Rice were also the FA party on Angels Fright. Brinton and Johnson were FA on Piton Pooper. Imagine climbing that route with that gear! Jumping Jehosophat!

Very very cool film. That woman sure can scream. I see Mt. Baldy everyday on my way home from work. Just outside my front door the views of Ontario and Cucamonga peak. Climbing Mt.Baldy seems like it would be an adventure... Armando

That beauty has scenes shot at Stony Point, the bottom of San Antonio Falls (Baldy) and Tahquitz, around the Horn area - all my old stomping grounds.

If you take into account the year that it was, you notice that the "fool" in the film is named Hans. Maybe some subtle anti German thing already beginning, with the 3rd Reich's shennanigans starting up in Europe.

I have to agree. That film of the rocks bring back the sights/sounds/smells of those wonderful climbs.

Like others, I've wondered for years if a copy of this film survived. What a pleasure to see it and these So Cal and Tahquitz pioneers. Amazing. The traversing fall is on Switchbacks, another early route.
That these clibers were able to establish 5.8 routes at Tahquitz with this very rudimentary equipment is still very impressive.
