BITD, but not all that far back, there were some very visible movers and shakers in climbing. Where did they all go?

Neil Cannon: lycra enthusiast, had a lycra company (Original Skin) and was a mag and gossip pages staple.

Dale Goddard: exceedingly hard puller and was the industry standard for "lean".

Timmy Fairfield: NM anything goes guy. Nice hairdo most of the time.

Hudon and Jones: alive and well here on the Taco!

Merrill Bitter: fully cranking in the late '90's?

Dan McQuade: Teen model and LV pioneer.

Beth Wald: Photog to the stars.

Geoff Weigand: oh my GOD!

Ken Nichols: roving chopper

Dan Michael: Boulder?

JB Tribout: Frenchy

Alan Watts: Smith Rock pioneer

Mark Rolofson: Boulder?

Stephan Glowacz: Cosgrove look-alike?

"Spider" Dan Goodwin: saw him on the Merv Griffin show!

Russ Raffa: Gunks

And the absolute anti-mover/shaker, Charlie Porter, who sprayed nary a droplet? But who nevertheless, really shook things up?

Oh yeah!
Jason Khal (the dead baby guy), Evilution FA
What about him.
He really pushes some limits, and not just in climbing.

Don't know about most of them, but Stephan Glowacz is still pushing it just as hard as ever. Particularly in Patagonia.

Russ,
Alan Watts had trouble with his hands for a long time.
(arthritis I think) and has not been climbing much that I know of. I saw an article where he made comments about nobody really pushing new standards at Smith. (veiled spray)
He was the "sport" pioneer, not the old school pioneer.
I believe his 17 yr. old son is a nationally ranked downhill skier. He lives in Bend and does the occasional lecture/slideshow.

Russ...I can answer for a few.

Russ Raffa...just climbed with him this fall. Still a wise guy, married to a wonderful wife and enjoying raising their three year old son.

Beth Wald lives in Boulder, a successful photographer and in a long term relationship with Rolando G.

Mark Rolofson...in Boulder, still cranking new routes and just got married.

Dale and I did the FA of a route back in 1983 while he was at college in C-Springs. His idea of celebrating was whole wheat bread with butter...mine was a six pack of strong ale. No wonder he stays so lean.

Bobby B lives near Boulder, still cranks and has two young children.

Ditto and Robin run a climbing/training school for children here in Boulder.

People wear out their bodies and end up on the couch.

The couch is the down fall of the American empire.

Get rid of the couch and "Glory Boys/Girls" of America will once again be.

Aren't you glad I'm here to screw up your thread ......

In the last 5 years I've had some "face time" with:

Neil Cannon:
Can climb, enjoys community level downhill ski racing, is working on a solution to computer hardware speeds.

Timmy Fairfield:
He's super invested in cranking skills and various climbing biz training spin-offs.

Merrill Bitter:
Spoke with him at a climbing shop in SLC, (IME?) in '04, he looked fit and was working there, 'still climbs.

Tony Yaniro: (bonus sighting)
Chatted 'im up on the same occasion with Merril, he was building a gym (as the designer) for a client in Montana.

Dan Michael:
I run into him here in Boulder, once in a blue moon. Sometimes works as a bike mechanic.
Not sure about his climbing ambitions, but he told me he takes "long walks in RMNP"; is an ardent yoga dude.

Bobbi Bensman:
I fixed her windshield wiper here at our local ski resort a couple weeks back. (I still got the touch, yo!)
...She was repping skis at a demo.

Lynn Hill: (bonus sighting)
Had dinner at her house with Bullwinkle a couple nights ago.
She's pushing her brand forward and raising 4 year old Owen.

Lynn, Bobbi, Robin, and Shelley Dunbar (Presson), still rip it up on the stone, often together.

Hey Tar, ever run into Coral Bowman or Beth Bennett in Boulder? Did Hallett Peak and some quality Lumpy Ridge climbing with Beth. She was married to Dan Michael BITD. Met Coral on top of the Bastille one day many years back. I knew about her near miss and was totally inspired by her and Beth. Such smooth climbers.

Glad to hear Bobbi and Shelley are doing well. Haven't seen them in years.

Good to hear about Mark Rolofson getting hitched after all these years. Last time I saw him, I was sharing a Boulder hottub with him and Cilley. Was I a lucky girl or what!? Had me steelbelted combat briefs on that day.

Beth was married to Jim Michael, not Dan, and divorced him quite a number of years ago. Jim. Now there's a raw and phenomenal climbing talent, one of the very few who could almost play on the same level as Jim Holloway. They were great friends. I enjoyed following them around the boulders, long after I had fallen headlong down the other side of my hill. The two Jims were something to behold, on the holds.
