Just remember HK, there's an invisible man who lives in the sky, he watches everything you do every minute of every day, he has a list of things you should not do, and if you do them, he has a place for you where you will be burned and tortured for eternity.
But he loves you.

Kinda funny, in some places it's almost the opposite: bullshit is nearly religion. "Gober" is used to make houses, kitchen counters, medicines, etc.

Off, funny stuff. Hay-sus, HAAAY!
It's always religion, politics or music that stirs the pot so well. People can be rabid about any or all.
Religion bashing is b.s. for some, perhaps those who need to be told by someone 'closer to god', an unproven, unscientific, story that gives them hope and direction for their lives. That's cool if it keeps 'em from doing fvcked up things to themselves, other people, animals or the planet. There is still much hypocrasy in the world, religion included.
I'm sure many 12 steppers absolutely needed the assurance of a god or personal savior.
Being religious does KNOTT mean you are spiritual.
Being spiritual does KNOTT mean you are religious. Definately some differences there.
What if, like Zappa once asked when AIDS was beginning to become rampant, 'whose been plukeing the monkeys?', as the HIV virus was discovered to be a variation of the SIV virus, that some otherworldly creatures did descend from beyond this planet and somehow reproduced with the simian species and created humans?
What would most organized religions have to say about that scenario? Worlds would turn upside down I'm sure. How does organized, christianity explain the fossil remains of dinosaurs that scientifically, date back hundreds of millions of years before humans ever existed? That god put them there when he created the earth and heavens in seven days, just because?
Right,,,, I'm so sure.
Hoping a wise sage like WB will chime in here sooner or later.

Yes if little green men ever do land smack dab in the middle of Washington DC, I'm sure they will have missionaries with them, LOL. They will do their best to enlighten us and convert us to their beliefs.
But do you really think it will take more than 5 seconds for our own religious leaders to call them the spawn of Satan?

For all I know god is torturing me for a good reason.
Fvck him then, I don't care, it's still torture.
God can take his mysterious ways and shove them up his almighty a$$.
I still think if there really is a god here, he's the retarded child of some other, better gods, who ought to be embarrassed by what their kid has done. Maybe they're just out for dinner or something, for the last several thousand years, and when they get home, boy is our god gonna get it.
I honestly don't think even the republicans could screw things up as badly as god has, considering that he's supposed to be omnipotent and omniscient and all that.

G.C., an important culture critic and master of pop irony,
but sloppy on theology.
May I critique his fetching intro? If you are tired or new to theology, skip the parenthetical statements:
"an invisible man who lives in the sky"
God is not merely an invisible man and does not merely live in the sky, according to Augustine and Luther.
(Classic doctrinal statements of the Church Fathers and Reformers are careful to resist anthropomorphic simplifications of God, but rather, present the most challenging intellectual questions before humanity, for all time.)
"He watches everything you do every minute of every day."
Omniscience means "all-knowing," transcendent of light or time.
"he has a list of things you should not do."
The orthodox idea of "sin" goes beyond "doing," to delve into the subject of "being."
(The Ten Commandments were, among other things, important civil laws upon which the gypsy nation Israel would base its legal system. The New Testament teaching is emphatic that the law could never bring about true righteousness. (ref: The Epistle of Saint Paul to the Romans.)
"he has a place for you where you will be burned and tortured for eternity."
Hopefully not! This has already been accomplished on the cross, when the visible God-Man experienced Hell, cosmologically, in the place of His fallen children.
(Because God's essential nature is Holy, the "light" of His presence brings all evil, which is the ultimate cause of all suffering, into judgement with "no parole."
Hell was not a place prepared for humanity, but rather fallen angels. Eternal Torture? Some adhere to the idea of unconscious annihilation. In both cases, Hell means "eternal separation from God," The parables of Jesus do suggest consciousness in a place likened to a burning refuse site, gehenna. We should never forget, Jesus preached the love of God in the context of the judgement of God, on behalf of the Kingdom of God. His most damning statements were reserved for the religious legalists, merchants and reigning religious rulers of his time. Hopefully this has not changed!)
"but he loves you."
Is it so ludicrous for the Creator- Father to love his children? We can find that love by seeking. Charles Wesely spoke of it in verse:
"Amazing love,
how can it be,
That Thou my God,
Shouldst die for me"
Thanks SUPERTOPIANS. I would like to dedicate this post to the memory of our friend, Tobin Sorenson.
