Wasn't Hunter S working on a story about the Franklin coverup when he shot himself ? (and a silencer...no sir, I don't buy it...not the man's style at all...)
I seem to recall him saying they would kill him and make it look like suicide, too...

I've got a really good friend who has worked for Trent for years and she said he's straight.
He only stayed this long in Washington because the (lack of) State Farm insurance claim payments for the gulf coast.
