This one could go either way. In one hand- he is a fascinating individual. Very much like a character out of the Old West.
On the other hand……..

This could be a good one.
He's helped me quite a bit and I'm looking forward to meeting him at Sushifest in IC.

I wasn't gonna post this in the SW thread, but it seems to me that Ron has been very vocal about what he feels is the evolution of acceptable standards based on the constant influx of new information - IE pounding pitons in soft rock years ago vs the damage the routes see over time, visible now but not in foresight.
I give mad props to anyone that is open enough to see and modify their position like that. Some seem to call it hypocrisy, but I think you have to maintain behavior while telling others not to do it in order for that to be accurate. We live, we learn, we try to do better - that's HUGE in my book...
Now, on the antagonistic side of things - yeah he's rubbing some people the wrong way. Personality ? Not sure if it comes down to any more than that...but I do know that the delivery is just as important as the message, with the flip side being that people are going to provoke a response one way or the other sometimes.
Yes it damages the rock. Would we lose access if someone got seriously hurt or worse trying to raise the bar though ? Lawsuits and land use concerns being what they are, I'm not sure this one is at all cut and dry...one too many lawsuits/rescues/injuries and this whole game is going to change, imho...I'm not saying that's justification, just a valid concern.
One n00b's opinion...

Ya just gotta love the guy.
Besides that, his routes speak for him as well.

If loss of access must occur, I'd rather it be b/c because someone raised the bar than because someone lowered it.

Riley, why did I have to put that bag over my head?
Unfortunately Junior broke free yesterday and has evaded discovery and I'm pretty upset. (Do you think it shows in recent posts?)

Ron's OK. I've talked with him a bit, here and there, in email. We're all quirky, we all have things we do that bug people. Strong personalities are a part of climbing. And, of course, internet forums make us all "experts" and bring out our tough guy syndromes! hahaha I think Ron brings good points to the forums and his posts are, most times, enjoyable to read.
Hope you find Junior and he is well, Ron!

Pickaxe Ron's buttons are easily pushed, but it's sooo much fun!
And he does tend to stay in the hot kitchen, LOL.
I confess Ron, I ate your lizard, with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
But seriously, I bet Ronbo is fun to climb with, and probably a good pal to have, as nearly every other internet butthead I (used to) climb with is like that. There is something about curmdgeonly irrascible climber dudes. I guess they have character or something, and they are interesting. The climbing banter tends to be quite amusing en route.
However, back to the point, it's far more fun and useful to deprecate internet losers who start accounts and post threads just to bash people.

Soil in Visual Orifice,
Didn’t start this thread to bash RonO. Just wanted to initiate a healthy discourse on a thread apart from the Streak Wall thread. OlyO simultaneously launched his Ammon for President thread, so this one sort of evens out the scales of justice.
If there is some character bashing to be done, I have no fatter target than you. But I shall refrain…
