Apperantly Mr. Pete 'aka Pedophile' (in my opinion) Zabrok seems to think that HIS numbers add up. Doing IP address searches is a good way to make your activities seem suspect to law abiding citizens to most here on SuperTacos. Pete, I have told you before that I am offering you a FREE consultaion to my office here in Boulder. I can understand your hesitation because once you start to receive consuling, it will eventually bleed your account dry because you are going to need a lot of it. The only one who has multiple identities is you. You try to point out that stew, oncler, and maestro are the same but there are not, but like I said before, how many different names to you use? Not only are you a hypocrit, you are borderline psychotic. You of all people here in this forum has absolutely NO CREDIBLILITY until you address what your issues are.

Would someone explain to me how someone that needs HTML help has any clue how to do an IP search? I'm a system admin of a variety of unix machines as well have having a ton of network admin experience. I'm a full-on techy geek.
From my perspective anyone claiming to do IP address searches is full of sh#t - sounds like pound-a-pre-teen-ass-pete.
IP searches via this forum are not possible.

Eric, I am asking how. Like I said, I make a living at this stuff. In seven years of being a techy geek I've never seen a way to drill into the information via a web page.
Certinaly if a user has access to the machine that hosts the site and thus the web logs (though they are typically off limits to users anyway - they are on my systems) you could do a seach.
But like I said, pedophile-pete, needed HTML help. A few system admins I know don't even know `tail -f /var/log/httpd/supertopo.com_accesslog`. yes, IP addresses and time stamps are in the weblog so one could make the effort to figure it out. But not via the website.
Even if someone did know how to get this information I doubt Chris Mac gave them the account information - HIS! - to do this just to figure out aliases.
I also doubt Chris or his admins took the time to dig into this for anyone. this place is anonymous and Chris doesn't seem to care about our stupid little alias infightings.
Hey man, I don't question you on bigwall techniques as I consider you an expert and a bad ass - my network/sys admin skills might not compare with your wall skills but they are up there.
BTW, do you know which Doug this is? You were out to kill me a few years ago for reasons completely beyond my control - though that wasn't your impression. I was bumbed the way it all turned out.

I also find the IP matching accusations to be less than credible. Having run a BB myself (using the pre-fab Ultimate Bulletin Board software) the admins and mods etc can view poster's IP addy, as the software "stamps" each post as well as records every IP a particular username has posted from.
However, I don't know of any way that Joe Blow internet user could query IPs from internet postings unless they had inside access to the board. I'd be curious to know how Pedo Pete claims to be getting his IP info.

Nature,
If you click on the name that people use to post on a thread, it gives you the person's email address. From there I think you can do an IP search.

I concur that Chris doesn't care about moderating battles among the aliases.
I mean, how ridiculous! You be the judge whether this is good or bad.
As he's said, he's too busy climbing, which is something we should all try to
spend more time doing.
As far as I know, only one person has ever been banned/blocked. (MajAhole)
Now that's really saying something, what with all the BS that's been posted here.

dakine420. No not possible. I'm 100% sure of that. Your IP address has nothing to do with your email address - NOTHING! If you dial-up, everytime your modem connects you are assigned a new IP address. If I reset my cable modem I stand a chance, though rather slim, of being assigned a new address. Hell, if you sign into AOL you do it via a proxy and you are even MORE anoymous.
Hell, I have a ton of aliased email address all pointing to my real address - rock@holdit.com is one. I do this so that spammers cannot get my addy. If they do, I'll kill the alias email and the spam to boot. That's my reason for those aliases and my only reason. My real domain name, lafarge.net, is hosted on a remote server located somewhere in either New york or LA - I forgot which. I administer that server. I configure my email there. However, any email sent from me origninates and is stamped with the IP address of my Mac - that IP address is in no way related to my mail/web server.
I know my stuff on this one, man. Trust me. If there is a way I want to hear it. I'll correct myself as wrong if proven but I'm most certain on this.
If you were to be able to do the search and figure it out, my almost-expert mind (on network/web stuff) would take this approach.
I would look at the time stamp on the posts from the people that i believe to be the same. I would then log into (SSH in) the webserver that hosts the site and dig through the web log. I would look for HTTP POST entries (these correspond to when you post/update) and I would find the ones with the dates that match the posts I'm intersted in. When I find them I will then see the IP addresses. Even with that, if they had dialed up, there is still a chance the IP would be different even if the person is the same.
*action* nature points up and says "what HK said".

Nature,
I trust you that you are right with what you are saying. I personally don't know sh*t about computers. I am a psychiatrist so I can tell you about other people's problems but not much about computers. The email thing was just a guess.

dakine - I suppose a reasonable guess. pedophile-pete apparently thinks nobody knows about IP searchs. I'm sure it sounded good to most. It was 100% bullshit to me.
And just for shits and grins.... This is what my weblog looks like:
[root@www cgi-bin]# tail /var/log/httpd/lafarge.net_log
206.166.220.52 - - [01/Dec/2004:16:10:55 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 3 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)"

The IP address, timestamp and page requested are all right there in simple english!
One intersting thing, the picture of my puppy in the cochise thread is the one entry you might recognize. the rest.... It's also worth noting the person viewing thee thread with my puppy is using Firefox - what's wrong with Safari?!?!?! ;-)
This is just the last ten lines of a small weblog. Maybe only 10000 lines. supertopo probably has good million entries per week.
Have fun parsing through that!

Loom, that is directed to pete and pete alone. I guess the word on the street is that he likes to get a good as pounding from time to time. Just as his other names consist of pee on me pete, pedophile pete, pitch a day pete, un zip my line and hit the deck pete, drop my pin rack pete, and the many others that are out there.

Curiosity got the better of me & I searched the forum, it even appears as if all of his posts were nuked. Now for a site that seems dead-set against censoring (accept for the f*#k, sh#t, c*#k nonsense) it must have been pretty egregious to get banned.
