Wide Wednesday - 9/19/07
This one was down at scuffy's, a vicious left side in classic exercise in arm-bars and heel-toes.
The Wide Wednessday crew currently travels among the three artificial wide cracks described in this post to the "Show us your woodie" thread
A reminder of how it looks in the day light...
For what ever reason getting out of the Tri-Valley was a real effort, but eventually Jaybro, Gary and I got loaded up in the 2001 Civic CX hatchback wondercar and on the road... late enough to encounter some traffic around the San Jose Airport, but otherwise pretty clear sailing down to the redwood groved backyard. A cloudy sunset finds Mr. Smooth ambling around under the crack, probably thinking no one was going to show.
We started the laps, Jaybro got the honor of first up, it was his first time on this, then me, then Gary then Scuffy. And we go again... until momentary muscular (or mental) failure.
On one of my laps Jaybro managed to get a shot of Gary belaying me...
...I think I'm going to claim the first free solo of the thing... geeze, watch out when you go out climbing with the old guys folks! they get tired and have to nap at the most unopportune times (gee, that's me too!).
At some point I started to get that well used Vedauwoo feeling (y'all know what that is, bruise on bruise, torn flesh, sore shoulders) and had the great idea to just lay back that sucka... not good for the shoulders! and shins.
The guys did a couple of more laps, Gary stacking his last attempts easily.
Anyway, imagine walking down a beautiful little creek in a red wood forest and hearing the scraping, scuffing, rhythmic grunting of a bunch of old guys... ugly image... but welcome to Wide Wednesday!

Yeah, but who needs an awake belayer when you have an enthusiastic, spot-on,
Spotter,
who can also,
Belay?
But, if you are a godless, particle phycisist, with your own gaurdian angel (kinda like Yabo had) who will pull you up by your own
hair straps,
How much more idyllic can it get?
The promised land

I'm *really* jealous, guys! Zander has been kind enough to keep me posted about wide wednesday and workout days, etc. As soon as work calms down a bit, I'm going to talk my friend Blaine into leaving work a bit early for the 2 1/2 hour pilgrimage for the wide workout. Looks like good fun!

This hardcore training device, is that a peach parfait or is it more of a cotten candy?

Definitely more of a parfait type experience. YMMV.
Judging from the after effects (e.g. do the kids run around
madly, can't sleep, etc) I think there is very little resemblance
to cotton candy.

Sometimes I think it might be inside out, but the main problem
is that the upper parts are still missing,
and I think I've detected an incipient trend toward a more flaring geometry.
so, anyway...Stone the Crows?

This redwood climbing machine, do you use miracle grow or bag fertalizer? Scuffy, it's beyond frustation! I can't find the Stone The Crows literary masterpiece. I found a bunch of other cool stuff that I've been searching for for years! Would you like a recipe for some tasty manicotti? We have alot of black holes at our house, it still may show. I hope I keep finding more stuff though, don't you?

We are very lax on fertilizer application.
How about that great piece on the itis?
I only made it through page 1 (there was a "party" going on)

many answer the call once, fewer twice... but there is a hard core few that find this fun, and they should volunteer to be studied for abhorent behavior...
scuffy, I thought Jaybro and Gary were adding liquid nitrogen compounds back there at some point

My elbows are still bleeding from last week's wide wednesday. I've bled through two work shirts this week.

I guess you're lucky you don't do left-side in.
Heal well. Gary's crack is easy on the elbows.

This bloody upside down cotten candy climbing beanstalk thing, has it ever fallen down and smashed anyone to death? I don't think it would be appropriate to post "The Itus Strikes Back" on a public forum, I would not want to be responsable for contaminating innocent minds. Sigh.

Caughtinside: Your elbows were taped. Was that before or after scraping 'em?
Ed: Thanks for posting. I was wondering what I missed. Traffic wasn't bad on 17?
Scuffy B: Props for the driving you do to get up to Zander's. Hope I get a chance to try your OW in the future.
Jay: Cool shot of the pulling-up-by-the-hair. I rarely get that kind of assistance.

I really prefer to think of it in inside-out parfait terms.
The only connection I get with cotton candy is that sometimes
one can hear the phrase "what kind of Mess have I gotten myself
into now?"
It almost fell down onto me while I was installing it.
Fortunately it was on belay at the time.
Maybe I could add some bolts to its tether. Seems like work,
though..

my first attempt I wasn't taped. And it was before I had my strategy down. Took me right down to the bleed.
But even with my plan in hand, there was a lot of ungainly thrutching, grunting, kicking and whimpering going on in there.
