The new issue of Rock of Ice is one of those "best of" climbing photo issues. Is it just me or do any of you also find the endless series of bouldering photos a tad boring? Geologically speaking, shots of boulders are nice, even pretty in their own right. But when it's about climbing, bouldering shots for the most part do not inspire any sort of emotion in me whatsoever, apart from *yawwwwn*. I realize that not every photo can be like Epperson's shot of Pete Takeda on pitch 14 of Sunkist, but still. Guess it's this generation's most obvious way of exploring new territory....which is fine, but if the trend continues, 30 years from now Climbing mag will be showing a bunch of pictures of people climbing trees! (billions of first ascents to be had there)
Bah. Rant over. Nothing better to do today.

Notice how bouldering photos are being shot at night to try and make them more interesting?

JB, are those pics of Croft?
What you can't see is the GIANT inflated airbag at base of Rostrum. You don't think he climbs without ropes, pads or anything, do ya?

"Boring bouldering photos" is redundant.

Now here is where poetry meets Jane Austen. John Bachar always was a man of great subtlety and irionic insight and a master of portraying the provincial middle class of Yosemite.

Tom, I had to mail some guides and invoices, so I couldn't get much time in with them. Plus, the kiddos stayed in the car and Andrew had to get to Bozo for work. That South-side of Andrew's has a great feel to it--have to go explore some more around there.

Wild Bill - yes indeed, Peter Croft bouldering Butterballs, 11c, and the Rostrum, 11c.
He didn't have a pad....
Thanks Oli - I've always liked irony for some strange reason.

I like the irony in TKingsbury's photo. All that climbing gear sitting quietly on the ground during a bouldering sesh.

w00t w00t! Nice Andrew!
Quite the gear cluster in my shot, makes more sense if you know the location of the boulder....

"Bouldering is the poetry of mountaineering" (or something like that).
Isn't that an Ament quote???
Edit:
AWhit - nice photo - where that be at anyway? ...looks great.
