Had an unforseen opportunity yesterday afternoon to head up to Yosemite. Got there about dark, so sat in El Cap Meadow and watched the moonlight inch its way down the wall. Beautiful. Ended up in the high country for a bivy and got up early this morning. Grabbed the light gear and started hiking to a familiar climb you all know.
Cathedral Peak, of course. SW Butt, 5.6ish
"racking up"
This would be the classic 5.4 fingers first pitch. (it's not steep at all)
Quick slam-bam 180 pano, shot at the base of the Chimney, 2/3rds up.
Alas! The Chimney. You can see it as a tiny vertical black line in the second photo, above.
Eichorn Pinnacle, from the summit.
N. to Fairview Dome, the Meadows, etc.
Two hours from the car, 7:45am. :)
What's this??!! Free Beer???!!
Damn straight, I drank that beer at 9:30 in the morning. It was good too!
Ok, Ok, I put it there. And there's one more, ice cold, under this log. Go get it!

Mmmm. I think I'll have another one of those.
Added captions, David. And Seriously, there's a beer under that log. Or at least there was this morning. Hopefully somebody saw my sign and indulged. :-)

Oh yeah, I got screamed at by a ranger on the drive home when I stopped to take a picture of a bear, along with 200 tourists. I apparently got too close and could have scared it off, thus depriving the tourists of a park exerience, and unnecessarily agitating the wildlife. I'm sure the screaming ranger made the bear feel more at ease. Incidently, he could have arrested me and slapped me a $285.00 fine, or so he said. I kindly apologized and took my place with the others, which seemed like a comedic twilight zone.

I laughed when I saw the picture of the chimney. I climbed Cathedral Peak on my second day as a climber many years ago. I got to that chimney and had a hell of a time finding anyplace to put my feet or hands.
Several years later I climbed the same route with my daughter and realized the chimney that had confounded me earlier was a piece of cake. Thanks for the memories and the beer commercial. Big love in the Sierra Nevada!

Yeah, it's looking out. I nearly dropped the camera trying to squeeze it out of the case. Liked the viewpoint.
Such a great super classic climb! Gotta take my wife up it, though it has a history of being bad for relationships.
Anyone know if those holes in top are from lightning strikes?
