Would they have brushed it all off if they hadn't been attacked themselves? Fox News provides their "unedited video so you can make up your own mind."

You can barely hear it but an officer says:

"If you don't move back I'll put you under arrest for assaulting the facts and impersonating a journalist."

...hardly and assault...more like a shove to get her ass in gear..considering the weren't doing what the cop said to do...they are lucky they didn't get wacked with a baton, or gassed. An order is an order.

Rule for life.
When a cop in full riot gear is giving you orders...yelling and trying to explain to that cop, why you are not following those orders, rarely works....and generally pisses them off.

Crowd control is skeeeetchy business at best.

JV, in the post above drills it,...too funny John.

Now this is the kind of police brutality I could really get behind. Could they assault Bill O'Reilly next please? Maybe sodomize him with a broomstick?

Edit: I haven't watched the video, but from what Melissa says, it sounds disturbing. Cops run amok. As much as I detest Fox News, I certainly don't wish harm on another human being. Except Bill O'Reilly.

Edit: And Ann Coulter. Could we please have a police riot on Ann Coulter?

Didn't you watch the whole video? They batonned the camerawoman, knocking her to the ground as they tried to get to their van to leave. They wouldn't let the reporter help her back up even though you could hear her pleading to let her help the woman.

And of course, they weren't getting the worst of it.

What I didn't see in the videos was any sort of rioting that justified the use of any of the force they were showing.

They were simply diffusing the possibility of a riot. If the police did nothing and a riot started, then people would bitch about them not doing anything, if police do do something and a riot does not break out then people still bitch about the police using force when nothing actually happens. Stop something before it starts is the logical, common sense way of doing things, but of course it will not please everybody.

"Just lucky it wasn't the LASD."

Why, are they even more poorly trained and ill-tempered?

Ah, well - it was only FOX news.

But that's no justification, I know. Because other news organizations got pummeled too. And innocents.

All you posters above claiming 'the cops did what was needed' are off base. Kinda reminds me of all the drivel that was recently spewed on the 'brass knuckles' thread.

"Several people, including about a dozen officers, were hurt. About 10 people were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries including cuts, authorities said. None of the injuries was believed to be serious."

Don't these numbers give us some insight as to why the police reacted in the way they did ?

None at all. These numbers do not indicate that the police took these actions to prevent further injuries. Nor do they tell us whether the injured were hurt solely by out of control cops.

so let's let all the people at the rally get out of control, start breaking windows, looting and so forth. Once a crowd that large is out of control, there would be quite a few more injuries to deal with to regain control. If you never let them get crazy then that equates to less injuries.

None of us will ever know from watching this tape whether their actions were justified. I watched it twice, and still have no idea. I could watch it twenty more times, and still not be able to tell.

Always surprises me to see someone like the lady with the microphone think she can tell law enforcement whats up. Rule #1- when cops say move, stfu, and move. If you dont follow rule #1, enjoy the emergency room visit.

None of you all know what went on that day. None of you were there. So all you're doing is spraying about your generalized beliefs regarding the role of law enforcement and a citizen's duty to obey.

Please STFU.

Remember Dolores Huerta.

I'm trying to point out that posters who proclaim 'law and order must prevail' do not know what went down.

We DO know that the chief of police has confirmed his officers took 'inappropriate' actions. That says a lot right there. Calling in the FBI is welcome, but is also politically savvy. Best to nip it in the bud and avoid city-wide riots, right?

I believe in the rule of law, not the rule of law enforcement.

Remember Dolores Huerta?

Sorry, Atch - maybe I was too heavy-handed?

Let's spew about things we know something about.

edit: How about that global warming?! Whew, that warming really is something? Or maybe it's not?
