I've never had a wild cat sink its teeth into my face, so I can only speculate about what kind of reaction the jogger would have. I imagine a lot of adrenaline and possibly rage against the beast as he fought back.
But I would be curious if, in the moment, he had a sense of an ethical dilemma.

In all fairness to the mountain lion, it was cub not a full grown lion.

That is one tough man,
I doubt that he felt a moral dilemma .

In all fairness to the mountain lion, it was cub not a full grown lion. Probably just as scary, but yeah, my odds would have been for the animal if it were a 150+ lb adult. One report was 100 lbs, another said 80 - which means it was probably really closer to 50.

Mountain lion kittens stay with their mother for ~2 years. Sounds like this one was on its own too soon, not likely to have been able to feed itself. Hungry and inexperienced.
EDIT: JLP is probably right. The kittens grow fast, but at a year old, 50-60bs is more likely than 80 or 100lbs.
We had a lion kill a deer right by one of the classroom buildings back in 2013. I put out a motion activated camera anticipating it would be back on night 2 to finish its meal. Made the video in the link from the camera stills (just fixed the link at 10am Wednesday). Turned out to be a cat that had a Puma Project collar. This is what a full grown (150lb) male looks like. Sort of a cat version of John Long in his prime. What a powerful animal. Be hard to fight this boy off if he decided you were next. But, this is the usual case. A lion running around for a few days on a campus of 25,000 students, staff and faculty and no one saw it.

DEAR, GUNKIE. YOU ASKED: Who was the jogger? BURT BRONSON??!!
IT WAS ACTUALLY MY LITTLE BROTHER, BUTCH BRONSON. HE WAS OUT FOR A LITTLE 50 MILE WINTER BAREFOOT WATERLESS TRAINING SPRINT WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. HE IS DOING WELL AND PLANS ON STUFFING THE LITTLE KITTEN LIKE A TEDDY BEAR AND GIVING IT TO HIS DAUGHTER AS A GIFT.

Five mountain lions were recently trapped and euthanized in the resort town of Glenwood Springs, Colorado after coming up on people's porches and killing their pets, wandering around the suburbs in daylight and killing and burying deer and elk in their yards. They also showed no fear of humans. This year is a severe winter and the wildlife service decided they would either starve or fight to the death with other cougars if relocated. Hence the decision to euthanize them.

hey there say, jan... wow, thanks for sharing...
oh my...
say--also, the guy was lucky, too, that 'mama' lion was not around...
meaning, then, it REALLY must? have been finally out on its
own, as of 'this short period' in time...
(just guessing, but, it got me to think, so) ...

I think they breed like rabbits 🐇. They have been hunting them in the black hills for years now and it seems as if there are more.

Personally, I'm very happy that BURT BRONSON is still with us. Provides me with a sense of center.
I'm sorry, but the Verizon Wireless commercials with effeminate men walking dogs for a living makes me feel weird. Like maybe that's how we're supposed to be? NO NO NO NO.
THANK YOU BURT BRONSON!

Per the report Mike Bolte links to:
They do know that the mountain lion was younger than a year old. Most mountain lions are born between June and October, which would make this one anywhere from three to eight months old, according to the CPW. They haven't yet determined the lion’s gender, so that would put this one anywhere from 20 to 60 pounds.
Although the runner did not receive life-threatening injuries, he is still in a hospital recovering from the wounds the lion afflicted on him.

A short report on how errant young Mtn. Lions are handled in central Idaho small towns.
Idaho Fish and Game reported that the woman was breaking up what she thought was a fight between her dog and another dog early Wednesday morning. But as she pulled the two animals apart, she realized that in one hand she held a juvenile male mountain lion weighing around 35 pounds.
While restraining both the dog and the cat, the woman yelled for her husband, who was still inside the house, to grab a gun. He reacted quickly and shot the mountain lion while his wife held onto it, Idaho Fish and Game said in a press release.
