I'm referring most specifically to Reports of Injuries/Deaths and Condolences?Celebrations of Lives Threads. Specifically, most recently, to "Another Nickname(Kent Pierce)" and his bug up the butt itching crusade about the Mohonk Preserve.
What kind of a callous person takes center stage to stand up among grieving people to point out what they see as associated shortcomings?
Of course, he is far from the first to do this.
I'd like to ask the forum's opinions on asking RJ and CMAC to delete these types of posts in the future, when they come up.
Freedom of Speech is a bogus argument - it's got NOTHING to do with this kind of thing but is an ignorant obfuscation attempt, whether the pusher of that knows it or not. Freedom of Speech law is that our GOVERNMENT cannot stifle free speech, not that as#@&%es have the right to be as#@&%es among grieving people.

You pretty much describe the current MO of all mainstream media.
Of course this is a privately run and funded website and the owners can censor whomever they want for whatever reason. The 1st does not apply.

I stopped reading the thread.
But to your subject line implied question: the response is simple this: each thread is its own personal agenda. So usually a wide latitude is given to those who are merely offending or ignorant, but less latitude is given to illegal posts or hate speech.
Typically the cure for bad speech is more good speech.
So why rely on others? You have the floor. Carry on.

We can all agree that we've got a few Second Amendment nut-jobs on this forum? Call me a First Amendment nut-job.
Here's the basic problem with your proposal (and it applies to all restrictions on speech): who decides when it's one of "these types of posts?"

Other people’s speech is just an opportunity for us to gain more understanding, if we’re willing. We don’t have to believe the words they say, just the fact that they’re saying it. I wonder why they say it, and why we react with our shutupitarianism?

I am so sick of that overused, under-thought-out slogan.
Anything you don't agree with basically you just chalk it up to
"Haters gonna hate", instead of any intellectual dialog which
advances your position. What does that even mean?
I guess in this case you're saying CMAC and RJ go around hating?

Lol, sorry to whoever started this thread for my delight at it (I don't think that was the intended result)... but god, i love a good crazy taco laugh.

I glanced at this thread because the title/subject was so ludicrous that I was seduced by curiosity. Sadly, it was not the nugget of lighthearted intentional hypocrisy that I'd hoped for. ;(
Anyhow, apologies for any callousness etc etc. Also for the thread that's opening now, which is meant in good humor - hopefully taken as such. If not, cheers anyhow!

Well...I didn't expect THIS amount of upset. Really, I thought there would be a mix of insistence on a person's right to post whatever they like, agreements that it is crappy to poke at people through threads where mourners are likely to gather. But the vitriol from several actually did take me by surprise.
let's just add a screen of the email that came via my Contact at one of my websites. I would guess the anonymous author is using a throwaway email, and that they are also one of those who has posted to this thread.
The post refers to having someone banned after they put me in my place. For the record - I made no contacts to the admin of this site, and haven't for years. So if someone has been banned, perhaps it's got nothing to do with me or this thread. Though - if someone HAS been banned, I guess that might be a pretty good clue as to who sent me that email. And, if that's the case - that person really ought to take a good look at themself and what in their life has them so miserable that that is the way they behave.

You know if you don't like someone or strongly disagree with them and can't debate in a good manner, you can choose to walk away and not spew.
