Random question for all of you.
Has anyone shipped a car long-distance on a carrier truck? If so, any recommendations or things to watch out for?

I will assume you are doing a cross-country shipping of a vehicle, since I have experience with this. Do not plan on shipping luggage or other items in the car since car shipping companies will not allow that. It takes time for the shipping, so allow about a month or even a month and a half of time between expected pick up and expected delivery. It does not actually take that much time, but the shipping company has to arrange for best shipping method to gather many vehicles together to complete a full truck load. Uncovered shipping will be less expensive than covered shipping. I would only use covered shipping if you have a show car.

There's Mecum, and then there’s all the rest.

Yes, Virginia to SLC, so across the country, and not a classic, just a 2009 Subaru, for my daughter, who is turning 16. So probably not worth the extra $ for a covered truck.

The main routes for enclosed trailerss are LA, Dallas, Houston, Miami, NY (follow the money)

My brother is in the trucking business and has moved his cars around with the enclosed trailer service, I will ask him for some names.

Whatever happened to the old driveaway services where they would arrange for someone
to drive yer car across country? I know, what could go wrong? Me and three crankloons
did that - drove a Vega Wagon up the AlCan, in winter! Car was flawless, after we
stopped at a grocery store in Spuzzum, BC to get some cardboard to put in front of the
radiator.

Yes, Virginia, there is a place called Spuzzum, but only in Canada.
It’s up the road from Squeah. I think they raise pigs in Squeah.

We did it with our 4runner when we moved. Easy breezy, it wasn't enclosed, though it wouldn't have been if we drove it either. The guy picked it up at our old place and dropped it off as close to our house as was possible. No idea how much it cost (employer paid). Good luck!

I have driven for a drive-away service.

Super professional, and way cheaper than shipping.

I had a full back-ground check done before I was qualified to call in for a pick-up.

Just to present an alternative.
