It's like fun only different.

I'm writing something, and I want to refer to this quote. I'm pretty sure it was Alex Lowe, but web searches don't find it. I really don't want to be wrong with the attribution.

Also if anyone knows more about the context of the sentence that would be very cool to know.

Thanks.

It is a statement resultant of "Type 2" (or maybe 3) fun, I believe.

"Hackett's team, I later learned, not only received no renumeration for their lifesaving labors, but--having failed to obtain funding in both 1986 and 1987--met most of the project's expenses out of their own pockets. I asked one of the doctors, Howard Donner, why they volunteered to spend their summers toiling in such a godforsaken place. 'Well,' he explained as he stood shivering in a bizzard, reeling from nausea and a blinding headache while attempting to repair a broken antenna, "it's sort of like having fun, only different.'"

could have been said sometime else, someplace else, by someone else, but this is the first time I ever read it... I was laughing hysterically through the reading of that collection of climbing stories.

Carl Tobin always said “it doesn’t have to be fun to be good “

It may not have been Barry Blanchard who said it first, but he was the first person I heard saying: "It don't have to be fun, to be fun."

I know that Barry and carl did some time together.
I think alex’s Quote was something along the lines of “the best climber is the one having the most fun “

Yes, I've heard that one. Best to consider that Alex Lowe's idea of "fun" might vary from most people's.

Thanks for the replies.

Fun is in the other eye of the beholder that wasn't poked out by by a stick, during a game.
