Hello~ On Sat, July 22, my car parked at work on Brannan between 7th and 8th in SF got broken into and my climbing pack full of climbing gear was stolen. I don't think the thieves actually had an idea what they had gotten... Pretty much all my gear, hardware, were all marked with a silver sticker with my name (Cathy) on it. Chance is slim that these gear surface, but I thought I'd give it a try... If anyone comes across with any of these online or anywhere - local flea market or garage sales, especially the backpack - Miura 50 in short ( I am barely 5ft and this is the only pack that fits me well,) please let me know. (Please email to Powder at gmail.com or text : four one five 335 nine nine one seven ) I'd be truly, truly grateful!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!! - Cathy
Below is the list of the gear stolen. All hardware were market with a silver sticker with my name Cathy on it - some might have been faded and simply looks like a plain silver sticker. (See pics attached) Each of the BD nuts was marked with flowery duct tape.

Super bummer. I wonder if you have some sort of insurance that might cover this. There's an epidemic of car break ins and theft in SF now. Even worse than usual, as thieves are not even arrested, just given a ticket for petty theft. I've talked with several cops about this and they don't like it either. There's no deterrent, so this happens in broad daylight, with tourists as big targets. This afternoon in Golden Gate Park I saw some sketchy guy on a bike riding around looking into cars.
Hoping you somehow get a lead on your gear.

You did not notice that particular block, like every street and alley in San Francisco, is covered with broken automobile glass?
You don't leave anything in your car that you'll be sorry is gone.
Did you make a police report and get a Incident Report Number. If I were to encounter some smelly meth addict selling your gear on a side walk (there is a high probability that could happen), I would have limited options in getting your gear back without that police report number.
With that police report number; I could call the cops and they would confiscate your gear and you'd have a chance to get it back.
Without that number; it's my word against a smelly meth addict.
Get and post that report number. Yeah, I know getting the report taken by the SFPD is a huge hassle.

I hope you get your gear back. Make sure you file a police report, even if it is pain. If you have renters insurance, then the insurance will cover this. Homeowners insurance may also cover it.

I stopped estimating the retail value of the gear when I got to $2000. It's above that. That's Grand Theft territory and I think can be prosecuted as a felony (lawyers please chime in).
I sincerely hope you have renters or homeowners insurance.

hey there say, dear sweet powder... oh my, this is very sad... say, i will email you... also, on a far-chance that the thieves do not realize or want to bother with climbing stuff, could/would they just 'chuck it' or 'ditch it' somewhere nearby? would 'signs' in those areas, help?
not sure what or how, you would word them... or, put notes in the WANT ADS... and you never know, someone may SEE what a member of someone's family, friend, and/or, HAVE taken, and they may report something??
all wild ideas, but, you never know... :(
check pawn shops, of course, anywhere nearby...
sending love and prayers and may this somehow, turn for good...
emailing you now...

Thanks, all!!
It took place at the company parking lot, off the street proper, right after the security guard left ( within 15 minutes... ) Got sheet and blankets covering it in the car so it was not visible but apparently it didn't help.
Unfortunately it was a hard lesson for me to learn about renters insurance , a bit too late for what had happened. I will start looking into it though, for the future.
've been keeping a close watch on Craiglist. ...also checked the dumpsters in the area and flea market. Friends are helping out with watching, too. More eyes are better than one pair, I've figured.
Once again, thanks, and thanks for the bumps and tips!
One of the officers who came over for the report had his car window smashed right before his shift... I wasn't the only one having a rough night... x_X
P.S. Neebee, got your email and replied. <3

I had a rental busted into. The car was literally bare.
Desperate, enabled fukks.

Cathy, sorry to hear of your losses. City dwellers are truly at the mercy of the street low-lifes when it comes to getting their cars broken into.
In '74, I had this agent friend who suggested renters' insurance when he learned I lived on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. Wisest thing I ever did as a few months later our apartment, in a 'secure' building, was booglarized. A TV was all the physical property taken (racks were much heavier then) and we 'estimated' our cash loss from the dresser was $200.
Heroin junkies, later apprehended for numerous break-ins.
I hope you get some of your gear returned somehow.

Thanks, everyone!!
Wow... maybe instead of checking out the flea market in the East Bay, I shall take a walk around Mission... @_@
Mouse, yeah... exactly the reason why I am seriously looking into the renters insurance... Stuff they don't teach at school!!! Though I had to learn from a hard experience and I couldnt change what had happened, I know ( better ) now and can do something about the future - in case life happens...!!
Munge, yes, it's customized. You have choices of different styles, colors, patterns, graphics, and fonts. I got it at the night market in Taiwan : D Pretty inexpensive and my gear could never be mixed up with others... = )

I have been checking all the side walk sales in the Mission and SOMA and have seen no climbing gear at all. I have your police report number and will continue to look.
Sorry about your loss.
