One of my oldest friends, and a great partner on many big walls, Rob Lesher, has done what I have pestered him about for years.
He has begun rescuing his slides from a far away storage unit. He got himself a scanner, and has sent me the first batches of newly scanned slides.
These aren't even the good ones, that are buried someplace deeper in storage!
Many of you will have fun looking at well known characters from the latter 70's, early 80's valley scene. There are even some from Smith Rock, and Rob's time at Red's Meadow working as a horse packer.
There are a few people who I don't recognize and could use help with. So here you go folks, enjoy and please feel free to comment!
L to R, I see Don Reid, Grant Hiskes, Jo Whitford, Rob Lesher, ?, ? Jobee, Rob said this was taken at some reservoir where the band played a gig?
Edited to say Alan Bartlett, not Grant Hiskes, my bad. Also Rob says that's Mark Chapman on the far right!
Robbie in full on freak regalia.
Who is this hovering over Yabo? Edit: Bellizzi just told me that's Kurt Smith!!
Who is seated on the left, and standing in back? Seated L to Right, Bryan Schult, our friend Dean from Oregon, and Rob.
A well known cretin some of you should recognize.
My awesome partner from an early ascent of the Pacific Ocean Wall.
R.I.P. Bob Williams.
Greg Sonagere, El Cap Meadow.
Yours truly, El Cap Bridge?
Climber Bob, and Lepton Man, heading out for the Reggae ascent of the Reggae Route on Half Dome!
Back with more soon!

Me, Bjorn Myerlund, and Signe. Bjorn and I did Separate Reality together, and he eventually was a Norwegian summiter on Everest. I had so much fun with the Norwegians that summer. 1980.

Nita, it does kinda look like Doug, but I can't ever remember seeing him in a headband, plus his hair was curlier, plus the hands don't look right to me.
I've done a lot with Doug, including El Cap, and it would really surprise me if that was him.
Anybody recognize Werner in the snow?

Great photos! Although they are from a time a couple of years into my, alpine induced, long absence from the Valley they still have very much the look and flavor of what I remember from the early/mid 70's.

Very nice survival. This is what it seems like this forum should be all about.
I'm guessing these are from the late '70s to early '80s? It might be too much trouble to go back, but could you put dates or estimated dates on future posts?
BTW, my wife couldn't believe that that's Donny Reid in the first photo. I thought it was. Are you sure that's him?

Oregon Bong Team! Great photos, great memories...missing the photo of a hack circle. Rob and friends really were some of the first people to turn us all on to hacky sack! Agree on Ron Peers, too early for Kurt Smith. Big greetings to Rob Lesher! And thanks for posting these gems Bruce!
Peace,
Peter
