Pete's on-line and abridged Chongoesque legacy has apparently been lost in the transition. Always sad when we lose our heritage so ignominiously...

90% of the people who go to rockmoronsrus.com can't find, and see no need anyway, a posting that is more than a day old anyway.

Pete never explained how to progress in the gym either.

It's not a worm hole, it's a shytehole.

You mean the thinly veiled attempt to "teach" people about wall climbing only to be drowned out with self promotion, preaching, and childish rants? I don't see any real loss.

Usually the contrarian, I learned how to "far end haul" from RCNOOBUS.

Not that I've used it...

I didn't say that there wasn't some intrinsic value to some of his posts, I just merely pointed out the obvious.

can i be one of the cool kids and rip on rc.com as well?

yeah the signal to noise ratio over there is a bit high. but on the upside, i've managed to meet my best partners and most of my friends through it, as well as dig up the beta i've needed on every trip i've taken.

it seams like every time a forum i frequent changes format, i am immediatly turned off by it. then you get used to it and its fine.

ultimatly, i believe any community is what we deciede to make of it. rc.coms biggest problem has been reliability. if nobody can get on the site, nobody posts anything worth reading/responding to and the whole thing goes down the tubes. they have done a couple of other stupid things, but for the most part i think the place just lacks a guiding community as most of the well known memebers have gotten fed up with the reliability.

First, that site is in it for profit.

They want your money to help them make money, unlike the climber coalitions which are working to secure climbing access and other such niceties for us, even if we are not paying menbers of said coalitions.

Second, they refuse to do anything about the idiotic misinformation that flows like a raging river and washes over and obscures the good info, some of which was posted years ago. The good is overshadowed by the bad.

Like Blowmeharder said.

this is also a for profit site, chris has advertisements and of course he wants us to buy guidebooks. so what! i'm a bloody american i don't have a problem with people wanting to earn a buck.

so what, you want rc.com to be more highly mederated? heck why don't you go post a reply yourself to correct some horendous error. ain't that what its for? maybe if enough poeple did that, the place would improve.

honestly, i don't really care abour rc.com, but asside from the comment, -we- are the generators of that.

Of course this site exists for profit, by selling books and topos. GOOD books. That's it's PURPOSE. As a bonus there is a free forum, with interesting people posting.

ST offers a service I enjoy.

RC.com on the other hand, they just want your money, for, um, well, nothing.

Several people have commented on the value and ownership of content they posted at RC.com in the past. Some stopped posting things worth reading for whatever reason, but perhaps helping others make money while the authors worked for free was a part of it?

As for fixing things at RC.com, LOL, many have offered over the years, but NOTHing ever gets done.

This site does not really need quality control, as for one it does not expressly cater to those who need beginning help and advice, and for another, idiots get shouted down pretty well here.

I did meet some really nice people on rc.com, I'll give em that.

yeah doing something with johns site would be a good idea. i like the work he's put into it, and i think its great that we have one spot developing as a good technical bigwall rescource. it kind of balances the taco as the definitive bigwall social center.

somebody nudge pete and get him to go crazy adding content to johns bigwallwiki. i found his stuff rather entertaining, though i didn't use much of it. kind lost its flavor when all the links went dead ect.

yes, post up on the Wiki:
http://www.bigwalls.net/wallwiki

Post your resume, your local big wall, your coolest technique that you've pioneered or used, etc.

There's also classifieds, and a forum for technical topics and questions. They are all linked to http://www.bigwalls.net

I asked Pete to contribute, but he seemed to want compensation. But as Zappa says, it's strictly commercial (not). I'm wrangling up some gear for the best contributor to the Wiki, though.

cheers
