was made 2060 years ago today.

Twenty-three stab wounds, of which only one was serious enough to be possibly fatal. The victim had lain for three hours before being tended to, and during that time had likely succumbed to blood loss and shock. He might have survived if he had received immediate care.

According to Suetonious and also Plutarch nothing was said by Julius Caesar as he was attacked by the group of senators that called themselves the Liberators.
It was Shakespeare that invented the line "Et tu Brute?"

The Liberators were convinced that they had freed Rome, but grossly misjudged the will of the Roman citizenry and were forced to flee the city within hours.

Caesar's name lived on as a title (the russian title Tsar is a derivation) his will named his 18 year old great-nephew Octavian as his heir.

One helluva toga party,..

Well apparently the Ides of March are less worthy of comment as the Pi of March.

I was hoping for some interesting comments re: Caesar.

20 years ago today I read a paper turned in by one of my students. It was about Ceasar and Brutus. I looked at the clock at 9 am that morning and knew that my mother, suffering from lung cancer, passed away at that moment.

We toasted her with her favorite: vodka martinis with a double olive.:

What's there to say about Caesar that hasn't been said by the more qualified?

HE WAS DA MAN!

By all accounts his troops loved him.

Not until Thursday on the Gregorian calendar...

And since the a Pontifex Maximus had the duty to adjust the calendar so the Ides fell on the the full moon, It wouldn't be until the 23rd this year on our calendar.

The Pontifex Maximus in 44 BC was Julius Caesar. Since he was in Gaul for most of the previous 10 years he had neglected his duty.
