My wife and I got a little boy coming in June ! But we can't figure out what to call it...We're both pretty traditional, we're not hipsters, no long family lineages to abide by ... My top 3 names so far are:

1) Buddy
2) Ray
3) Wesley

Got any suggestions?

This is a land mine thread! Still, I have to say that imo (worth what you paid for it) please avoid Buddy as it's a nickname or a dog's name. I personally prefer a one syllable strong male name.

I've always been partial to Von myself. :)

Major congratulations to you and your wife!

My first question would be: "von" where? But then, that could be a great conversation starter with a lot of mileage on it... :D

I like Will, but I would have to confess my bias. Will as a name and as in strength of. :D

Edit: P.S. Congratulations!

I'm with Crimp on a strong one syllable name. Sam or Max were in contention when my son was born. The interesting thing was as we called him those in the hospital it just didn't seem to "stick". You'll probably narrow it down then try them out just after he's born.
We didn't end up with one syllable after all. He is named Alex(ander) but my pet name for him (even at 25 yo) is "Ace".
A friend of ours named their young son Cyrus who is of course "Cy".

The name game is fun but my guess is he'll "pick" his name as you try out different ones after he's born.

Congrats ... You are in for a ton of fun!

we're not hipsters

But you like"Buddy" as a given name? Might wanna revisit that hipster status... ;)

I'd offer more help, but I named my son after this guy, so I'm probably not to be trusted:

So

Since I was given the first name Ray, or as my stressed mother would shout - Raymond!

The name never got mocked by classmates, and I did enjoy being compared to a ray of sun.

However, Spanish speakers have a really bad time with Ray, which ends up usually being pronounced: Raw. In Spanish speaking areas, I introduce myself as Ramon, which works just fine.

I also like the name Ray or Rae - each means 'gift' (like grace). Beautiful meaning and would work well with Lopez. What a fun task you have before you.

edit: Try being a Callie in a Spanish speaking area. My nickname among some Spanish speaking friends is "street". (calle is street; callie is close enough!)

And "Will" is basically "oil" in French speaking countries.

My wife has a friend who loved the name Cameron, except her Spanish speaking grandmother turned it to camaron, and it lost most of its appeal for her.
