I still find better help and advice from Apple people on the Taco Stand than in Apple forums.

My iMac and MacBook run on OS x10.7.5 (Lion)

When I upgraded to Lion I could no longer use my Adobe Suite (like Photoshop CS 2) which I paid good money for. It says PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

Sorts of pisses me off as the CS 2 suite was not cheap.

I portioned my hard drive and made a smaller one called Leopard (10.5) with the intention of loading Leopard and the CS2 suite but I have never gotten around to it.

So basically my Adobe CS 2 is useless.

My question is, should I upgrade to OS X El Capitan, and if so can I do so straight from Lion or do I have to upgrade to OSs after Lion?

Obviously I am not a techie.

I'm curious about this, too.

My desktop runs 10.7.5, and I've had no problems with it- runs like a champ, never a hiccup. Apple keeps taunting me with first, Mavericks...then Yosemite...now I'm getting El Cap taunts. Not so sure I should bother, esp. since I have CS2, and it sounds like it won't run on anything later.

Is there any hope for my iPhone 4s? It just quit synching to my wifi and the wifi on/off button
is greyed out. This seems to be an issue and they said to reset network settings but no joy!
I'm highly leery of 'upgrading' the new OS as the last time I did so it was a disaster.

Perhaps I am confused, but PowerPC is associated with the processor in your machine (IBM-Motorola) not the version of the operating system. Apple switched to the INTEL x86--- processor a decade ago.

EDIT: thanks five thirty - did not know those details. That explains a bunch of issues I had a few upgrades back!

I use Office (Word/Excel/PP) a lot on my Mac...when I migrated to Mac about 6 years ago, I loaded Office 2008 which has worked okay. Some weird stuff happens with Excel from time to time, though.

Anybody use Office:Mac 2011? Is it stable?

I upgrade any time it's offered. I do it without hesitation and worry. I do that because of past experiences - never a problem. I do run modern hardware so if I had something older I might do some research.

Edit: though yeah, if you run some very dated software that is a real consideration. But when my software has been rendered useless I just move on and update that as well. Throw a little money at it and the problem goes away. Or, I suppose in the case of CS(whatever) A LOT of money at it.

I upgraded a couple weeks back and the only issue I've yet to resolve is the "sleep" function that isn't working as well. At 2am the RTC alarm goes off and wakes the machine.

I'm using the current version of Office 2016 for Macs. I'm lucky enough to be able to purchase it for 9.95 through work.

I am not going to upgrade just yet, I'll keep Lion. However, if Rosetta is now gone, and there is no PowerPC emulator, unless I pay Adobe a lot of money, my CS 2 suite is useless. Is that right? In more ways than one, is that right?

I read about the switch to Intel processors from PowerPC, but while I will stay a loyal Apple user, in my opinion they screwed their loyal customers. And Adobe sucks too.

Patrick, eKat brought up a great idea when she mentioned Blanchard still using a Mac Mini for Photoshop. I'd look for a used one that will run your version of CS2. They go for $50 and up on eBay:

So my iPhone 4s wifi issue seems to be a known hardware issue. Very clever,
Apple, taking a page out of Detroit's playbook. But guess what, my next
phone will probably not be an Apple if you can't make one that lasts more
than two years.

I dunno, Reilly...I went to an iPhone last year after years with a Droid Rzr...that damn thing drove me nuts. Much, much happier with the iPhone. It just works!

I legitimately bought my CS 2 from Adobe. I had a Mac Mini as well, but had to sell it when times got a bit tough for Jennie and I, I had it hooked up to the TV, it was cool, but I never used it and Jen wouldn't be the most tech savvy person, she had troubles with the TV remote control.

So, I did partion my hard drive and created a smaller one called Leopard that sits on my desktop.

If I was to dig up my Leopard OS, load it on the Leopard hard drive, would that allow me to use CS 2? I do have the CS 2 suite on the Leopard HD, I just have put it on the long finger about loading Leopard OS on it, I am the biggest procrastinator in the world, according to my dear late mother.

I am serious, I get better help and advice from the Taco Stand than the IT forums.

Jim, I just did the OS upgrade and I still don't have wifi.
Apparently the 'wifi chip' fries itself.

Adobe CS2 is over 10 years old - well past its useful lifespan... The features added since are sooooooo powerful and they make some former tasks that were a royal PITA gut-wrenchingly simple.

Time to move on.

You should be able to boot either OSX, Patrick. That's a good solution.

These are not exactly your OSes, but the steps are probably the same:

Peter Hahn gave me good advice several years ago about buying Photoshop Elements instead of the full Photoshop. Unless you're a professional illustrator, it's probably all you need and so much cheaper.

I agree with Jan (and apparently Peter). PS Elements is 95% of the capability at 1/4 the cost.

OS X El Capitan is too big for you to upgrade right now.

You should upgrade to OS X Swan Slab first ......

I am running OS 10.4.11 on a G4. Verizon stopped supporting 4.11 so I have no email.

OS 9.7.5 was killer. I may just wait for Mac to go back to that.

While Bell Labs gave us the transistor, they subsequently zeroed their account with UNIX.
