They say they're from a defunct gym. Did you ask them where they're from?

Joe, I wonder if that must be one of them outdoor gyms? They look a bit rusty to me.
Warm regards:

The guy also has six helmets, carabiners, credit card terminal, and phone system for sale - could all be from a gym. How about simply getting on ebay and asking him before starting a thread like this...

I did actually ask the question to the seller on ebay, but got no response. Could be that if (s)he is new to ebay, (s)he may not know the innerworkings. I've sold stuff on ebay before and it took me a little while to figure out the sysyem.
Healyje states that the seller is also selling six helmets. Probably unlikely that a hanger thief would own (or be motivated to steal) 6 helmets.
Thanks everyone for your input.

I bought the hangers (after concluding they were legit from the indoor gym) - thanks for the tip. Some of the questions were answered right on ebay - under the item photos.
cragnshag - you were right - the seller was new to ebay; they didn't have paypal set up at first, but they did have accurate item descriptions/photos and were capable enough to reply to questions in the item description.
As for the rust on a few of the hangers - the note in the box from the co-owner of the gym explained:
"The first five years before carpeting we had a loose pebble base to fall into and we washed the dust down monthly. That's why you may see some rust." [in a few hangers, probably used for ground anchors].
I've seen rustly stainless hangers before, from non-stainless bolts exposed to moisture. You can simply wire brush off the rust and they are good to go; since they are stainless it is just a surface discoloration.
I'm retiring 3 of the hangers (one bent, two have some grinding marks). The rest are in great shape and will go onto new routes here and there, after I remove a few paint spots.
