Man critical after climbing accident
RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL
10/28/2003 11:53 pm
A Sacramento man remained in critical condition in a Reno hospital Tuesday after falling nearly 100 feet while climbing Lover’s Leap in El Dorado County, authorities said.
Mitchell Cheng was climbing the popular cliff near Strawberry, Calif., about 10 miles west of South Lake Tahoe when he fell about 3 p.m. Monday, El Dorado sheriff’s Deputy Mike Sukau said.
Cheng was rescued by about 25 people from the El Dorado County Fire Department, the county’s search and rescue team, Lake Valley Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service and helicopters from the California Highway Patrol and Calstar-6, Sukau said.
Rescuers rappelled to the victim and stabilized him before he was removed from the site by the CHP helicopter, transferred to another aircraft at Strawberry and flown to Washoe Medical Center, Sukau said.

Mick K is correct! The accident was on Monday. Currently Mitch is still at Washoe Medical center in Reno where he is recovering well. He suffered multiple injuries, the most sever being a fractured skull. After 4 days in ICU he was moved out and he is still under observation. As for the article in the news paper... they got it wrong as usual. The distance of the fall was exagerated greatly... he fell about 50 ft.
