I'm going out to Simi Valley next week for business and will have a day or two free. Is there any climbing areas near by? How about Mount San Jacinto? Thanks. Great site by the way!

Cheers,
Bill

Stoney Point is about 15 minutes away on Topanga Canyon and Hwy 118. Good bouldering and toproping with alot of broken glass and spray paint. Point Dume has some bolted routes/ topropes on the beach just south of Zuma beach which is about an hour away. J-tree and Tahquitz is about 3 hours(depending on traffic) and are definately the best.

if you want to visit a premier bouldering area, consider Pine Mt.

It's 75- 90 minutes up the road (Ojai to the top of hiway 33). Asthetics at 7,000' are supreme, and there are tons of problems varying in height and difficulty.

Just a quick note to point out that news reports over here are mentioning a big wildfire in Simi Valley. I'm 6,000 miles away, so I have no idea if this will affect the specific areas you're looking at, but it'd be a good idea to check.

The news has also mentioned air traffic problems in Southern Cali due to the fires. Again, no direct info. on how this might affect you.

Hope you can make it work.

Yeah, you might want to re-think that whole semi-valley trip, it's pretty much gone. Oh and Stoney Point, well if you thought the rock was bad before, try sandstone after it's been baked at 1,500-degrees for thirty minutes. Good news is that all that broken glass melted into more rock.

Your going to the S-I-M-I, valley of the KKK rally. Have fun. Stoney pt. is cool, but pine mtn. also rocks. There is the santa barbara guide book that steve edwards wrote that has a small section on pine mtn. chris owen has a guide book on stoney pt thats pretty good. But don't bring no draws to stoney, not welcomed or else you'll meet the jeff johnson group.
