I have been to many mountain regions around the world and a common and enduring local belief is that the weather is usually better during the period around the full moon. There is absolutely no factual basis for this belief yet it endures.
My take is that in bad weather areas periods of good weather are remembered as are full moons. When the two coincide they are remembered (heck you can see the moon) and a cause and effect relationship is established.
Any stories here around the full moon "myth" ?

Is this why they asked you to leave Chile?

I was asked to leave because the anecdotal evidence showed that during my presence volcanic activity slowed. The better business bureau around Pucon needed a show from the local volcano to stimulate business.

By definition, if you can see a full moon (and use the moonlight to climb, bike, hike, trip out, etc.), then the weather has to be good, otherwise the clouds would cover the light. So we would naturally correlate the full or mostly full moon with good weather.

I went for a mostly full moon mtb bike ride last night. Magical. Did not need artificial light on the open parts of the trail.

In fact I prefer to do "full moon outdoor activities" two to three days before the actual full moon because the moon rises before sunset and will be higher in the sky- and thus more useful, in the early evening. On the actual full moon night, the moon rises at sunset and you have to wait until 10 or 11pm to start your activity if you are relying on the moonlight to be overhead and give the most light.

hey there say, donini... wow, well, all i can say is this...

myth gets a tad broke over here... as, many a full moon, or neat time to view it, we have overcast, or snow clouds here, and must go huddle inside... :)

however, when the full moon IS out, the weather FEELS better, as to being more fun, WHEN the moon IS actually VIEWED... :)

I LOVE how it lights the yard... and how it starts the 'lighted trail' as it begins to rise and dispel the darkness...

say, cragnshag, also, GLAD TO know that it helps to get a 'head start' enjoying its light, by TWO days ahead...
thanks for that info... :)
