After reading and hearing about the resent ascents. Questions about who did a free ascent in a day and all that.
I started wondering about air borne descents.
Whether by choice or not, base jumping, cut rope, rappelling off the end of the end of the rope, cutting the pig loose and having it pull the team off the wall.
I know it is a sad subject and I am sorry and apologize before hand for anyone has lost someone by the act.
During one of my ascents of El Cap. A lunar eclipse happen and a person base jumped off the top of New Dawn Wall. All I heard was a sound of a jet and I could make out the figure of a body falling past.

should call them "free descents".
They're not free if you use a canopy (chute) "aid".
There's I think one recent one 3 seasons ago which qualifies "Free Decent".
Unfortunately such a descent by a mere mortal involves a crater and a body bag .....

It wasn't a B.A.S.E. jumper

El Cap is old news. No one jumps that pile.
Waste of time, energy and effort.

El Cap probably has been done over 2000 times. Maybe even twice that. It had been done by over 500 people by 1985.
There are ways to get away with it. Most of the time.....
It ain't a pile, either. It is one of the most beautiful jumps in all of BASE.

I once started a thread about the documented Yosemite BASE deaths, and somebody seemed real pissed - so I deleted.
