World's most advanced gas engine?

On his death-bed Nikola Tesla was asked about his favorite invention.

Even after inventing 3-phase power, wireless telegraphy, alternating current, the induction motor, neon light, and the remote control -
among others - his answer was the bladeless turbine, His 100th patent.

But I will say that Remote Desktop technology, whereby you can get on another machine from the machine you are on with full visual representation of the desktop, is pretty outstanding.

The inertia of eighteen thousand tons of steel idling on
the ocean’s surface was a massive force unto itself, but it
was no match for the magnetohydrodynamic engines.

The cryopumps spun up and went infrasonic as they pumped
liquid nitrogen around the magnets that stripped free
electrons from the water forced through the drive tubes.

A creaming, explosion of froth erupted at the Oregon’s
fantail, and within ten seconds of Max’s command the big
former freighter was moving....

With the ship under way,
the passive sensors were deaf to everything except
the noises the Oregon herself produced, the shriek of her
engines and the building hiss of water against her hull.
--Clive Cussler, Mirage

The book is LOADED with lore and speculation about N. Tesla & his work.

Testla's invention has been commercialized as disk pumps. The efficiencies are relatively low (50% or less),but it works well for high viscosity fluids or ones with lots of entrained gas. A small niche product.

http://turbolab.tamu.edu/proc/pumpproc/P17/P1769-79.pdf

A variation is the vortex impeller wastewater pump, applied where you need a relatively small pump that can still pass turds, dead cats and rubber duckies without clogging and you aren't too concerned with efficiency.

Teslas' claimed efficiencies only come at impractically high rpms.

After an eight-hour dance in microgravity, Dextre and the Canadarm became the first self-repairing robotic system in space, replacing a faulty camera without leaving orbit or relying on pesky astronauts.
