Thanks to Hash, and Craig, for shedding some light on this mess. All those speculative posts do not show ST at its best, but a fairly common theme has been people, including adversaries, sorry to see Dr. F gone. Also sorry that their own thoughts had been trashed as collateral damage.

Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies. Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. Their mistaken course stems from false notions of equality, ladies and gentlemen. Equality, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism.

Yep, that's a wierd one, alright.
Sorry to lose you, F.
No doubt you'll be able to find a better way to spend your time than in the midst of this wierdness, though.

This topic ranks right up there with fruitcake!
Because fruitcake begins to appear at this time of year
and we all may be forced to face its strange texture,
its awkward gift quality and its proper disposal.

Although his online persona did not "do unto others and you would have them do unto you", he will be sorely missed- like after you quit hitting your thumb with a hammer. Just kidding Craig. Best of luck to you. Perhaps you should go into politics rather than talking about.

Reading between the lines;
Craig kept telling them how to run their site.
Got obsessive about it.
They got tired of hearing it.

Sorry- I'm just having a really hard time believing that a simple plea for moderation brought this on. There's more to the story...not that I really care.
On a side note: the wholesale slaughter of every post a person ever made is REALLY lame. Seems like you can ban them without destroying every thread they ever contributed to.

"Reading between the lines;"
I'd say that CMac & co never intended the ST Forum to be a primary, daily social circle for anyone. Yet that is exactly what it is for too many of us who frequent the place.
I would've moderated myself a long time ago if I had been in his place.

to my mind, the biggest issue is the wholesale slaughter of every post, regardless of the author, made to any thread initiated by this individual being banned.
given that cmac's second stated goal for supertopo is to "record history" it makes no sense on any level.
if recording history is truly the goal, losing all of coz's posts, for example, is bad enough. to go even beyond this and delete every post to any thread initiated by an individual is one of the most obviously absurd and counterproductive methods of "moderation" possible.
a lot of us get annoyed when a poster takes all of their toys/posts and goes home. it seems childish and rash.
this killing anything in a thread is the management analog to the above.
and to me, it seems just as childish and rash.
in sum:
kill a poster without explanation... sure.
kill all of a posters contributions... seems absurdly draconian, but if applied only in extreme situations, sure, why not.
kill every contribution, regardless of the author, to every thread started by a poster... seriously? this is actually done on a 10+ year old forum whose stated goal is to "record history"???
