A few people have noted they are on the job market and may be making a move soon. Come forward all. I'll start. I applied for 8 positions last week. More applications may be forthcoming as jobs are posted. So far, I've applied to positions in these cities:
Long Beach CA
Boulder CO
Flagstaff AZ
Chicago IL
Carbondale IL
Columbia SC
Tallahassee FL
Washington DC
I won't know anything for months. Who else is in a transition period?

You know my story, Crimpie!
Any worthy school systems out there, folks? Not for this school year, obviously, but next is certainly up for discussion.

Maybe its' just me, but I can't imagine a job good enough to move to Tallahase, maaybe if you could retire after six weeks or something.
If it was me I'd be hoping for Flagg.

I am looking for a transfer to Colorado, Nevada or California. Any place out west with good climbing and not in the South or Northeast.
I may have to wait until my son graduates from high school but if a great offer came in, I'd go and he could just deal with it. I am so, so sick of Memphis. I am still pissed that my sister and niece did not tell me how bad this place sucks. I hadn't heard the "n" word in conversation in twenty years in South Florida. I heard it twenty times in the first day in Memphis. In Memphis they think ten dollars an hour is a really GOOD job.
I work for Homeland Security with 6 years to get twenty for retirement, so a transfer is the only way to go for me.

I looked, and it turns out that Tallahassee to Chattanooga TN is the same distance that I travel to get there now. So, it's not as horrible as it sounds. I'll keep repeating that to myself.
BTW Werner, folks around here, grown up people, drive around with race car numbers on the sides of their cars. No kidding. Weirdos...

Scary thing is that I'm already west of the big river. Okay, only nine miles west, but still. Psychic LEB has spoken and I'm to be moving to Boulder or Flagstaff. I like the way she sees things!

I just moved to Redwood City, CA from Washington, DC to start a new job. I'm still settling in (one chair, one plate, a knife, a Thermarest and two bikes). My wife and all the stuff arrive in a couple of weeks. It is great to be missing August in DC. So far, the new job is looking like a really good fit. I'm really glad I made the move.

Boulder is now pretty congested and property quite inflated.
I live in the hills and that works for me, I ain't leavin'.
Flagstaff is pretty cool and not quite as trammeled.
Happy Trails,

There's note even a beach in Tallahassee, and certainly nothing to climb on but plastic.
But your closest climbing would be in Alabama, or Georgia.
HP-40 and Palisades, and (ugh) sand rock. OR, you could sneak into, OOPS, CENSORED!
Oh yeah, you have that sick bolt clipping psychosis, you'll be goign to Little River canyon. A little further up than HP-40, but an hour closer than chattavegas. And all the overhanging bolted choss you can stand.

Jbaker: Sounds awesome. I was in DC for 5 years before coming here. At least I'd be familiar with the city should I go back. That will be important for me to chose the 'perfect' alley to live in since that is all I could afford.
Lambone: There are some openings in Oregon - all on the Idaho border. Thought I may die of isolation/loneliness. Smith isn't too far, but it's so hard to get out moving when I'm busy in bed suffering a major depression (haha).
John Hansen: There is actually a nice position on Manoa. I've considered applying, but am concered about transporting my birds. Maybe I'll look into that some more...
Squirtineye: Stellar outdoor climbing is no farther from Tallahassee than it is from St. Louis. The distance to Chatty and all that fun climbing is exactly the same. Besides, would you really want to be near a beach in Florida? Annual debris pick-up, house rebuilding? I'd get tired of boarding up the windows to my home.
And Riley - you hit the nail on the head - quality of life. Really, each of these places can be poo-pooed for some reason. But I figure I'll toss my name in the hat and see what happens. Thing is, if they all bite, I can stay here in the Lou.
Am I the ONLY one looking? Where else is anyone looking?
