Hi folks,
Sort of embarrassing, but my girlfriend and I hiked all the way to the base of the Third Pillar of Dana this morning only to discover that her belay device, locking carabiner, and climbing shoes were no longer on her harness. We have photographic evidence that she had them on her harness at the top of the decent down to the start of the climb, but they must have (who knows how) gotten unclipped while scooting and sliding down the approach decent. We (probably mistakenly) took a path that was slightly more on the Third Pillar side of the decent, so if anyone happens upon them please let me know and I'll sort out a way to get it back from you.
I can't tell you have excited we were to do this climb, and today was a gorgeous, cloudless day with no other souls for miles around. Imagine our disappointment when we started to giddily rope up and discovered this essential gear missing. If you don't find the gear but read this my recommendation for the last bit of the approach is to stay as left as possible down the approach buttress. There seems to actually be a bit of trail there, but where we climbed down was steep and tricky.
Happy climbing!

We didn't go back to get it because we assumed we'd left the gear in the car or back where we were staying at June Lake. Once we got back to the cabin we didn't have it in us for another 5 hour hike.
Anyway, if you find the gear and feel charitable please let me know and I'll figure out how to get it from you. Otherwise, feel free to make fun of our misfortune/stupidity. :) Like I said, it was a beautiful day and it broke my heart to walk away from what looked like a very memorable climb.
Happy climbing,
Alan

Ah, clear now, thanks for the clarification.
(So I gather you guys must've headed down straight away once you reached the pillar and not racked or reracked your tackle at its top, thus assuring something of a recheck of things.)
No making fun intended, happens to us all some time or other.
You're sure to have better luck next time! :)
